About me and my therapy practice

I am looking forward to connecting with you and supporting you on your journey.

Welcome to Axis Counselling & Therapy. My name is Jody.

I am a qualified and experienced therapist and I am here to provide both short and long-term counselling and psychotherapy for adults (18 and over). I have a BSc Hons in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and a Master's in Adult Education and Training. I have also trained in Person-Centred counselling and Gestalt approaches.

I have had the pleasure of mentoring and coaching for the past 20 years, and I have often discovered that the challenges we face are more about personal growth. This realisation sparked my journey into counselling and therapy, which has been really rewarding.

I have experience working with trauma in various settings, such as dealing with loss and traumatic events. I have experience working with veterans, partners, spouses and carers. It has been an enriching journey, during which I have connected with individuals of all ages. It is never too late to embrace change and growth. I have also worked with neurodiverse clients, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis, and together we have discovered creative and meaningful ways to foster understanding and development. It is truly inspiring to see how each person's unique perspective can lead to personal transformation.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and follow their Ethical Framework. I am fully insured, registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and hold an enhanced DBS certificate, so you can feel confident in my commitment to safety and professionalism.

Practice description

How I work

My clients are the ones to lead. It is all about you, finding the right approaches, tools, and strategies to help you navigate the day-to-day and life’s ups and downs.

I aim to create a supportive, safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly explore any challenges and difficulties you are facing. Together, we focus on making tangible progress that helps you understand and cope better.

Therapy is an opportunity for you to explore new ways to cope, make positive changes and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. It is all about supporting you on your journey.

I understand that life can be chaotic, so I offer easy-to-use online services designed with your convenience in mind. Enjoy the freedom of flexible access, allowing you to choose what works best for your schedule.

Our first session may last longer than typical regular sessions, potentially around 90 minutes, however it will be at no extra cost to the regular 50-minute session fee. This extra time will help us to explore what brought you to therapy, explore your past experiences, and identify what has worked for you and what has not. By the end of our session, I will share some recommendations on what might be most helpful moving forward.

After the assessment session, the sessions will be 50 minutes. I am here to support you through online or phone sessions, available for individuals aged 18 and up. Each person I work with is very different and unique, so it can be hard to say exactly how many sessions someone might need. From a personal therapeutic perspective, my main goal is to work together for as long as it is beneficial and to help you build the skills you need to feel empowered on your own.

I understand that finding a therapist can feel a bit overwhelming and confusing. I hope the information above will help to answer some of your questions. If you would like to know more or have more questions, please contact me in confidence at my email address: Jody@Axis-CT.com
