About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome, I’m Emma, a Gestalt counsellor and ecotherapist working in Ringwood, Wimborne and Verwood, outdoors in nature, and online.
Maybe you’re doing fine on paper but feel anxious, flat or stuck. Maybe you’re burnt out, tired of overthinking, or trying to make sense of a recent ADHD or autism diagnosis. Perhaps you’re grieving someone you’ve lost, or going through a change that has left you unsure of your footing, such as a relationship ending, a career shift, becoming a parent or retiring. Or maybe you just don’t feel like yourself, and you’re not sure why.
Whatever brings you here, it matters. Reaching out can feel like a big step, but it’s often the beginning of something meaningful.
Therapy with me isn’t about being told what to do. It’s a space to slow down, get curious about what’s really going on, and work out what you actually want. I’m honest, warm and engaged, and I’ll help you notice your patterns so you can make choices that feel like your own.
Before training as a therapist, I worked in a fast-paced corporate job in London and lost touch with who I was. Therapy helped me find my way back, and now I help others do the same.
What I can help with
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of challenges, including:
- Anxiety, panic and overthinking
- Depression and low mood
- Stress and burnout
- Low self-esteem and self-confidence
- Grief, loss and bereavement
- Life transitions
- Relationship issues
- Identity and feeling stuck
- Neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism
My practice is neurodiversity-affirming and LGBTQ+-affirming, and I welcome people of all genders, sexualities, cultures and backgrounds.
Practice description
My approach
At the heart of my practice is the therapeutic relationship. I believe its quality is one of the most important parts of effective therapy, so together we’ll create a space where you can share what matters to you, at your own pace and without judgement. I’ll support you to explore what has and hasn’t been said, reconnect with your authentic self, and find your own answers, rather than offering advice or quick fixes.
I work in a Gestalt and humanistic way and draw on other approaches when they’re helpful. I may also offer invitations, such as creative work or practical tools, which can open up new perspectives and a deeper understanding of yourself.
Working in nature
I’m trained in ecotherapy and walk-and-talk therapy, and I’m a forest bathing facilitator. Working outdoors is more than a change of scenery. The natural world becomes part of the work: what catches your attention, the season or the weather can offer a different perspective on what you’re going through, and the relationship goes both ways. Sometimes gentle movement and being outside help us reach what’s been hard to access indoors. Sessions take place in woodland and green spaces near Ringwood.
Where and how I work
I see clients in person in Ringwood, Verwood, and Wimborne, outdoors, and online, with daytime and evening appointments available. If you’re curious about nature-based sessions, we can talk together about what might suit you.
Professional standards
I’m a registered member of the BACP and an accredited member of the NCPS, and I follow their ethical frameworks, with care, respect, safety and confidentiality at the heart of my work. I’m fully insured, have regular clinical supervision, and continue my professional development through ongoing training.
My first session
If I feel like the right fit after our introductory call, we'll confirm an appointment time as soon as possible and I'll send you an agreement, which sets out how we'll work together.
The first session is a chance for us to meet and get to know each other, and explore what you are struggling with and what you'd like to get out of the sessions.
By the end of our first session, we’ll have a sense of whether we’d like to continue working together and if so, we'll agree on further sessions. However, there's no obligation to continue.
