About me and my therapy practice

I’m Leanne, a psychotherapeutic counsellor offering a warm and confidential space where you can explore difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I provide a supportive environment where we will work together, at your pace, to make sense of whatever has led you to seek therapy.

Many clients come to therapy feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or stuck. Some find relationships, family life, or work challenging, while others struggle with painful past experiences, including difficulties in childhood. I also work with people facing more specific life challenges, such as living with or caring for someone with a life-changing illness, navigating loss, or adjusting to ageing and retirement. Whatever brings you to therapy, I offer a space to explore your experiences and feelings in depth.

I work psychodynamically, which means we will explore how early relationships and experiences may be influencing the way you think, feel, and relate to others. Therapy can help uncover parts of yourself that may have been hidden, silenced, or shaped by shame or self-criticism. Through this process, you may develop greater self-understanding, emotional resilience, and a stronger, more secure sense of who you are.

I hold a PGdip in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have 15 years’ experience working in mental health research and therapy in the NHS. I have supported clients with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, low mood, eating disorders, addiction, identity concerns, relationship issues, stress, neurodiversity, family difficulties, panic, and work-related problems.

I have worked with Macmillan Horizon, providing counselling for people living with cancer, and Victim Support, supporting individuals affected by crime.

If you feel ready to begin counselling, I offer a free initial call. This gives us the chance to talk about what’s brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain, and for you to ask questions about working with me.

Practice description

I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space where you can talk openly about whatever is on your mind. I believe the relationship between counsellor and client lies at the heart of meaningful change, so I place great importance on working together in a way that feels safe, respectful and collaborative.

My approach is psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counselling. In our sessions, we’ll reflect on both past and present experiences, exploring the challenges you’re facing and the patterns that may have developed over time. By looking at how early relationships and experiences might be shaping your current thoughts, feelings and behaviours, we can begin to build a deeper understanding of your difficulties and how they affect your life today.

Whether you are seeking help with a particular issue or looking for space for longer-term personal growth, I offer a safe and welcoming environment where you will be met with acceptance and without judgement. At the centre of my work is the therapeutic relationship we create together – one that allows you to reflect, explore, and move towards change at a pace that feels right for you.

My first session

After you contact me, I will arrange a free initial 30-minute telephone or online call. During this time, I invite you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and consider whether this style of counselling feels supportive and helpful. At the same time, it allows me to understand your needs and think about how we might work together moving forward.

Our first session marks the beginning of building a therapeutic relationship. In this session, we will start to explore your past and current relationships and experiences, reflect on the reasons you have come to therapy, and begin the journey toward a more holistic understanding of who you are. Sessions typically take place at the same time each week and last 50 minutes.
