About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Vicky.

Having benefited from counselling over the years to make sense of my own story has led me to this profession, not because "I know what it's like" but because I believe in the power of telling your story, unscripted, to a stranger and coming out the other end with a deeper understanding of yourself.  By allowing someone to explore your perspective, you are able to explore your life deeper than "how are you?"

I offer a confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings and what your body is telling you through signs like anxiety/depression.  A space to stand back and look at obstacles from multiple angles until the jigsaw piece falls into place for you.

I have counselling experience working in alcohol & drug addictions, trauma, domestic abuse, grief and the impacts of life-limiting Illnesses. I have experience in providing care to people of all walks of life, including teenagers with life-limiting illness to those in late stages of Dementia Care. I feel these experiences have led me to be someone who values humility and respects the dignity of those I meet.

I am also a Counselling Clinical Case Manager for a UK-based EAP service part-time.

If you'd like my support, please message me, and we can book an informal 15-minute chat.

Practice description

Whether you are facing a complex, immediate decision to be made or asking yourself deep, lifelong, meaningful questions like "What am I doing here?", counselling offers a unique setting whereby the person you are talking to has no direct bearing on your life. This opportunity is to rediscover and connect with who you are or have forgotten to be. Through exploring your patterns, behaviours, values and beliefs, you can start recognising the beauty of your individuality.

As you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, you can begin to make sense of the experiences that have shaped you, develop greater self-acceptance, move towards living in a way that is more authentic and feel empowered to advocate for your wants and needs. This process often unfolds in layers as you navigate the many transitions and challenges that life brings.

Whether you are looking for short-term, long-term support or even if you want to come and go as life flows, thats okay. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. I feel every person is unique, and there is no single "right" way to live life. My role is not to give you answers, but to use the tools I have gained through my training, work and life experiences to walk alongside you as you discover what feels true and meaningful for you.

As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, I abide by the principles, commitments and requirements of their Ethical Framework. I’m fully insured and receive regular supervision as well as ongoing training toward Continuous Professional Development.

My first session

Counselling is built on the therapeutic relationship, and you need to feel comfortable with your counsellor. I am a firm advocate for "different strokes for different folks", so call around and talk to a couple of counsellors before making a choice.

Our initial 15-minute conversation is to see if the practicalities of meeting allow for us to align and for you to share a brief outline of why you are seeking a counsellor. You can ask me any questions you may have and in this time, you will get a sense of whether you'd like to work together. I ask you to trust your gut, and if you are not feeling it, just be honest. I have strong boundaries and will respect yours too.

If you book your first counselling session, we will briefly cover contracting and boundaries, and the rest of the time will be yours.

If anything, the first step is just to take a leap of faith and see what happens.
