About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Kate.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You might have a specific concern or worry you want to work through, or perhaps you’re not quite sure why you’re here. You might simply find yourself struggling, feeling stuck, overwhelmed or lost, and like you need some additional support.

I understand that reaching out when life feels difficult can be hard. My role is to work alongside you helping you to explore your experiences, find new ways of navigating life’s challenges, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself.

Alongside my therapeutic work, I have over 15 years' experience working in the creative industry as an artist and professional photographer. My creative work has shaped the way I see and understand the world, and has given me an appreciation of the important role creativity can play in emotional wellbeing and personal growth. While photography has given me a way of observing the world from the outside, therapy has given me a way of exploring what lies beneath the surface. This curiosity about what shapes us, and how we see ourselves and the world around us, is at the heart of my therapeutic practice.

My approach is empathic, relational and collaborative. I believe that therapy is a space where you should be able to bring whatever is on your mind without fear of being judged, and where there is room to explore both the things you are struggling with and the parts of yourself you may be finding harder to understand.

I have experience working with a range of concerns, including anxiety and panic attacks, depression and low mood, gender identity and sexuality, trauma and the impact of abuse, eating disorders and body image, low self-worth, relationship difficulties, pregnancy and fertility, and life transitions.

I also have experience working with ADHD, Autism and other forms of neurodivergence, including the ways in which navigating a world that may not always feel designed for you can affect wellbeing, relationships and your sense of self.

Practice description

I’m a qualified integrative therapist, which means I draw on different counselling theories and approaches to suit your individual needs and experiences. My training includes psychodynamic, humanistic, attachment-based and CBT approaches.

We may gently explore patterns in your life, and think about how past experiences and relationships might have shaped how you feel, think or relate to others today. We can also focus on things you would like to change, developing greater self-understanding and exploring what you want for the future. I’ll work alongside you to understand what feels most helpful and meaningful for you.

My practice is inclusive, and I recognise that everyone’s experiences are unique. I welcome clients from diverse backgrounds and identities, and I work in a culturally sensitive, LGBTQ+ affirming, and neuro-inclusive way. I respect the importance of your individual background, beliefs, and values, and I’m interested in how our different identities, relationships and life experiences can intersect and shape how we understand ourselves and experience the world.

My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in an awareness of how past experiences and relationships can affect the way we feel, think and relate to others in the present. I will always be led by you, and we will work at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor at a performing arts college and as a school counsellor, working with adolescents at a sixth-form college. These roles have given me experience of supporting young people with a wide range of emotional, relational and personal challenges.

My first session

I believe the relationship between a client and therapist is fundamental to the work, and that finding the right fit is important. I offer a free initial 15-minute consultation, either by phone or online, which gives you an opportunity to get a sense of my approach and what it might be like to work together.

If, after this, you decide you would like to go ahead, we can agree on a specific number of sessions or work more openly over a longer period, with regular check-ins to reflect on how things are going and whether therapy continues to feel helpful for you.
