About me and my therapy practice
I believe counselling starts with having a space where you can be yourself, without judgement, pressure or the need to have everything figured out.
My approach is person-centred, which means I will listen to you, really hear what you are saying, and work at your pace. I won’t tell you what you should do or try to fix things for you. Instead, I’ll offer a safe, compassionate space where you can explore what you’re feeling and make sense of what has happened, in a way that feels right for you.
I have a particular interest in grief and bereavement, including pregnancy and baby loss. Grief can affect every part of life, and there is no single way to grieve or timeline for feeling better. Sometimes you may want to talk about your loss; at other times, you may need space to explore how it is affecting relationships, work, family life or simply how you see yourself and the world around you.
Alongside my counselling experience, I bring many years of professional experience supporting people through difficult and complex circumstances. This has taught me the importance of listening without judgement, recognising the person behind the experience and, above all, meeting people with kindness and compassion.
You don’t need to know exactly what you need from counselling before we begin. We can work that out together. My role is to walk alongside you, offering a safe space to feel heard and held, while you find your own way forward.
Practice description
My practice is centred around supporting adults who may be going through a difficult, painful or uncertain time in their lives.
I have a particular focus on grief and bereavement, including pregnancy and baby loss. I understand that grief can look very different from one person to another. You may be struggling with the loss itself, or with everything that comes alongside it - relationships, family life, work, identity, anxiety, guilt, anger or simply trying to find your way through life when things no longer feel the same.
I also work with people experiencing other life challenges, including difficult transitions, loss, change, low self-esteem, anxiety and feeling overwhelmed. You don’t need to have a diagnosis or be able to put your experience neatly into a category to come to counselling.
Sessions provide time and space that is specifically for you. There is no expectation that you have to arrive knowing what you want to talk about. We can begin wherever you are, and allow the work to develop naturally.
I offer counselling online and, where appropriate, in person. I favour in person wherever possible. My aim is to create a calm, welcoming environment where you feel comfortable enough to be honest about what is happening for you.
I bring both professional counselling experience and many years of working alongside people facing significant challenges and bereavement. This experience has shaped the way I work: with compassion and genuine respect for each person’s individual story.
My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to begin to feel comfortable in the space. We’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling and what feels important to you right now. You can share as much or as little as you feel ready to.
There is no expectation that you arrive with everything worked out, or even knowing exactly where to begin. If you find it difficult to put things into words, that’s okay. We can take our time and start wherever feels right for you.
I’ll explain how counselling works, including confidentiality and the practical arrangements, and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions. We can also talk about what you might hope to gain from counselling and how we could work together.
Most importantly, the first session is about finding out whether counselling feels right for you, and whether I feel like the right person to support you. There is no pressure to have all the answers or to commit to ongoing sessions straight away.
My hope is that you leave your first session feeling that you have been listened to, understood and given the space to simply be yourself.
