About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my profile. My name is Jake Alexander. I am a BACP-registered, person-centred counsellor. I offer a safe, supportive, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.
At the heart of my work is a belief in your innate capacity for growth, healing, and self-understanding. I aim to support you in feeling empowered within your therapeutic journey, helping you reconnect with your inner resources and develop greater clarity, resilience, and self-awareness. My approach is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, and I strive to offer a therapeutic relationship in which you feel genuinely heard, respected, and accepted.
I work collaboratively with you, recognising that you are the expert in your own life. Whether you are facing a specific life challenge, experiencing emotional distress, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I offer a calm and compassionate space to explore what matters to you.
My personal journey, professional experience, and lived realities have shaped me into a grounded, compassionate practitioner who values each person’s unique story and the importance of feeling safe and understood.
Practice description
My counselling practice is firmly grounded in person-centred theory and values, with a strong commitment to empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. I offer a warm, collaborative, and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship, supporting clients to explore their experiences safely and at their own pace. While my core approach is person-centred, I may gently integrate other therapeutic tools when helpful, such as approaches to build motivation, strengthen self-compassion, or develop healthier coping strategies. Our work is always guided by your needs, priorities, and readiness.
I have experience working with a wide range of presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, identity, self-worth, relationship difficulties, emotional regulation, trauma, grief, and life transitions. I also have experience counselling individuals navigating neurodiversity, substance misuse and recovery, homelessness, long-term health conditions, and complex mental health challenges.
Alongside my therapeutic training, I bring over 15 years’ professional experience in health and social care, including senior and team-leading roles within drug and alcohol services, outreach provision, and housing-related support. This background has given me a strong foundation in ethical practice, safeguarding, risk awareness, and working with complex and intersecting difficulties, all of which inform my counselling work.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and am working towards accreditation. I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development, valuing reflective practice as essential to safe, ethical, and effective therapy.
