About me and my therapy practice
I offer a warm, compassionate, grounded, and non-judgmental space where you can feel heard and understood. Within this supportive environment we will work together to make sense of what is happening in your life and what may be contributing to your current difficulties. Therapy can provide a place to slow things down and reflect on what has been shaping your experiences over time. This may include recurring patterns, moments where you feel stuck, or ways of relating to yourself or others that no longer feel helpful.
I am an integrative psychotherapist, which means I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches and work collaboratively with you to find what best supports your needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all model, I tailor my work to you, offering a bespoke and responsive approach.
I believe that therapy is co-created; as such, we will regularly reflect on how the therapy is progressing and adapt it to your needs and preferences. This ongoing process can support you in reaching deeper self-knowledge and in developing clarity, insight, and a sense of direction as you move forward in your life.
Outside of psychotherapy I am an academic and spend my time researching, writing and teaching. I have a passion for life-long learning, and I am committed to evidence-based practice.
Practice description
As an integrative psychotherapist, I work across humanistic, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic approaches. My practice is trauma-informed having trained within the NHS and in a counselling service dedicated to people experiencing complex trauma.
Drawing on humanistic and psychodynamic principles, I prioritise the therapeutic relationship and create a safe environment that supports self-understanding and personal growth. At times we may revisit your early experiences and explore how those may relate to relationship patterns that continue to influence you at present. Alongside this, I use CBT to develop practical tools to help you manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that may be causing you distress.
Finally, I have extensive experience of working with clients in a trauma-informed way with sensitivity to the impact of trauma on the mind and body, supporting clients to build safety, resilience, and a stronger sense of agency. Traumas may include the loss of relationships or marriage, bereavement, and emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
During our sessions we will draw on one or more of the above approaches to match therapy to your individual needs and preferences.
I am currently offering online evening sessions and offer discounted rates to students in training.
My first session
Our first session will be a 50-minute assessment where we will discuss what brings you to therapy. Together we will explore what you hope to gain from therapy, some of your history, and what working collaboratively would be like. We can also plan in terms of whether you are intending to work either short term or long-term. I will work at a pace that’s sustainable for you, knowing how daunting it can be to start therapy.
I offer an initial telephone consultation before booking your first session. We can get a feel for each other and whether we would work well together. This will normally be 10-20 minutes in length and will give you a chance to ask questions and get a sense of the practicalities involved.
