About me and my therapy practice

I offer online, medium- to long-term therapy, providing a consistent and supportive space where deeper understanding and meaningful change can gently unfold.

Before training as a therapist, I spent over 20 years as a Senior Lead Consultant in the recruitment sector, working closely with people from many different backgrounds and life stages. Along the way, I witnessed first-hand the resilience people carry, the quiet struggles they often hold alone, and the profound impact of being truly listened to. These experiences shaped my respect for the human story and the importance of compassionate connection.

My own journey through therapy has been deeply transformative. It allowed me to better understand myself, soften long-held patterns, and experience what it truly means to be met with empathy and acceptance. This personal experience continues to inform my work and strengthens my belief in therapy as a space where lasting, meaningful change can happen.

I bring together professional experience, lived understanding, and a person-centred approach — offering a therapeutic relationship where you are heard, respected, and supported as you explore what matters most to you.

The Values That Guide My Practice

Unconditional Positive Regard

You are welcome here exactly as you are. There is no judgement, no pressure to explain yourself, and no expectation to be anything other than human. This is a space where you can feel accepted, respected, and valued — even with the parts of yourself you may find difficult to share.

Congruence

I show up as my real self in the therapeutic relationship. I don’t hide behind a professional mask or a set role. Instead, I offer honesty, openness, and presence, because genuine connection creates the conditions where trust and healing can grow.

Empathy

I seek to understand your world as you experience it. I listen carefully to what is said — and what might be harder to put into words — meeting you with care, curiosity, and compassion. You don’t have to face your experiences alone; I am alongside you as you explore them.

My first session

Before starting therapy, I offer a free 20-minute consultation call. This is simply a chance for us to meet, connect, and begin a conversation. You can share a little about what’s been bringing you here, and we can gently explore whether my way of working feels right for you. It’s a relaxed, informal space where you’re welcome to ask any questions — about therapy, my approach, or what support with me might look like. There’s no pressure and no obligation, just an opportunity to get a sense of whether this feels like a safe fit.

After our call, I’ll invite you to take some time to reflect. If it feels right to move forward, we can arrange regular weekly sessions at a time that works for you. Sessions are offered online or in person, depending on what feels most comfortable and supportive for you.

Our first session is a chance to settle in. We’ll go through our working agreement together, so you’re clear about boundaries, confidentiality, and what you can expect from our time. From there, the space is yours. We can begin exploring whatever feels most important — whether that’s anxiety, low mood, stress, burnout, relationship or family difficulties, past experiences that still feel present, or a wish for greater clarity, self-understanding, or personal growth.

My approach is integrative, person-centred, and systemic. This means I hold you at the centre of the work, while also being mindful of the wider relationships, environments, and cultural contexts that shape your life. We’ll work collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you, drawing on different therapeutic approaches in a way that supports your individual needs.

Above all, I aim to offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood, and accepted. Together, we can begin to make sense of your experiences, notice patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing, and gently build resilience and self-trust as you move forward.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and life experiences at your own pace.

My name is Sonia, and I am a qualified Integrative Therapist based in the UK. I provide online counselling for adults (18 and over), offering compassionate, professional, and flexible support wherever you are.

My Approach

As an Integrative Counsellor, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, with Person-Centred Therapy at the heart of my work. This means you are at the centre of our sessions — your experiences, feelings, and goals guide the direction of our work together. I aim to offer a calm, confidential, and inclusive space where you can speak freely and feel genuinely heard.

What I Offer

I provide one-to-one online counselling sessions lasting 50 minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focused on specific concerns, or longer-term, supporting deeper personal growth and emotional wellbeing.

I support adults with a wide range of experiences, including anxiety and stress, depression and low mood, low self-esteem, relationship and family difficulties, grief and loss, childhood or sexual trauma, neurodiversity (including ADHD and autism), life transitions, and emotional support for those affected by cancer — whether you are living with a diagnosis or supporting a loved one.

All sessions take place online, offering flexibility, privacy, and comfort.

I also offer concessionary sessions for counsellors in training, providing a reflective and supportive space as you develop professionally.

At Flavius Counselling Services, my intention is to help you feel heard, understood, and supported — empowering you to move towards meaningful and lasting change in a way that feels right for you.

At Flavius Counselling Services, my intention is to provide a warm, inclusive, and empathetic environment where you can gain insight, develop resilience, and create meaningful, lasting change.

My first session

Your first session with Flavius Counselling Services is a welcoming introduction to counselling and an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I understand that beginning therapy can feel like a big step, so I aim to make this first meeting calm, supportive, and reassuring.

The initial consultation lasts 50 minutes and takes place online, giving you the flexibility to connect from a private and comfortable environment. During this session, we’ll explore what has brought you to counselling, what you hope to gain, and any areas or goals you’d like to focus on. It’s also a space for you to ask questions about how I work and what to expect as we move forward.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I believe that you are the expert in your own life. My role is to listen with empathy, acceptance, and understanding, providing a safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace. This first session is a consultation, offering time to reflect on whether my approach feels right for you and to decide how you would like to continue.

I offer counselling for a range of emotional and personal challenges, including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress, relationship difficulties, loss and bereavement, chronic illness, disability, ADHD, and Autism. My practice is inclusive and supportive, and I am committed to offering a space where all clients feel valued and understood.

We’ll also discuss practical details such as confidentiality, privacy, session length, fees, and how counselling is structured, so you have a clear understanding of the process.

By the end of our consultation, you can decide whether you’d like to continue with regular sessions — either short-term (to focus on specific issues) or long-term (for deeper exploration and ongoing support).

The first session is charged at my standard session rate.

At Flavius Counselling Services, my aim is to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered as you begin your counselling journey.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer online, medium- to long-term therapy, providing a consistent and supportive space where deeper understanding, emotional safety, and meaningful change can gently unfold over time.

Before training as a therapist, I spent over 20 years as a Senior Lead Consultant in the recruitment sector, working closely with people from many different backgrounds, cultures, and life stages. Throughout this time, I came to understand how much resilience people carry, how often struggles are held quietly, and how powerful it can be to feel genuinely heard and understood. These experiences shaped my deep respect for each person’s unique story and the healing potential of compassionate connection.

My own journey through therapy has been profoundly transformative. It helped me to understand myself more fully, soften long-held patterns, and experience what it means to be met with empathy, acceptance, and care. This lived experience continues to inform my work and underpins my belief in therapy as a space where lasting, meaningful change is possible.

I work in a person-centred, integrative, and relational way, offering a therapeutic relationship where you are heard, respected, and supported at your own pace. I have experience supporting adults with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and depression, childhood and developmental trauma, sexual trauma, the emotional impact of cancer and long-term illness, and the complexities of living with ADHD in adulthood. I also support individuals navigating identity, self-esteem, relationships, burnout, and life transitions.

My first session

In our first session, we’ll take some time to settle in and create a sense of safety together. We’ll begin by gently reviewing our working agreement, which outlines boundaries, confidentiality, and what you can expect from the counselling relationship. This is not a formality to rush through — you’re encouraged to ask questions, share any concerns, and take the time you need to feel comfortable and informed.

From there, we’ll begin to explore, in a way that feels manageable for you, what has brought you to therapy and what you might like to focus on. There is no pressure to share everything at once or to know exactly where to start. We’ll move at a pace that feels right for you, allowing the work to unfold naturally.

This first session is also a space for you to get a sense of what it’s like to be online together — to notice how it feels to speak, to be listened to, and to be met with care and understanding. Therapy is a collaborative process, and your voice, choices, and boundaries remain central throughout.

Our aim is not to “fix” or rush, but to begin building a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, openness, and respect — creating a foundation where deeper exploration and meaningful change can develop over time.
