About me and my therapy practice
I am trained as an integrative practitioner, drawing from the strengths and techniques of different therapy styles to suit your specific needs. My long career in mental health and neurodiversity services informs a practice grounded in empathy, collaboration, and non-judgement.
Using a mix of exploratory and solution-focused therapies, I aim to support you in better understanding your experiences, deepening your self-connection, and in time practically moving towards your desired future. Ultimately I hope our work together will provide you with practical awareness and resources that will continue to serve you long beyond your time in therapy.
I have experience working across a broad range of challenges and hold particular expertise supporting those:
- Struggling with anxiety, burnout, and low mood.
- Exploring interpersonal dynamics (including experiences of abuse).
- Processing feelings of guilt and shame.
- Exploring identity and self-esteem (eg: around sexuality and race).
- Re-building from adverse life experiences.
Whatever brings you here, holding hope that life can meaningfully change takes great courage and I look forward to supporting you in that journey. I welcome you to book a a free 30 minute introductory call to see how we might work together.
Practice description
Therapy is not a cookie-cutter experience and an integrative approach allows us to match the appropriate therapy philosophies and resources to your present needs and overall goals. With this in mind, I create the space to flexibly move between the different areas you might consider important, ranging from formative experiences to your future aspirations.
Being holistic means that throughout our process I am curious about and inclusive of all elements of your experience and identity. This goes beyond thoughts and feelings to include how experiences might manifest in the body, and how your specific cultural context might shape and intersect with your life.
Within this I will often draw from the following specialisms:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT can help us build greater tolerance and capacity when we are challenged by difficult thoughts and feelings. Central to this is a mindful noticing of our experience, learning to observe and acknowledge what arises, rather than becoming instantly drawn into automatic responses. An ACT approach is particularly useful for creating the breathing room to approach our challenges with greater self-compassion and in a way that is more aligned with our underlying needs and values. In practice, ACT can be particularly helpful for those struggling with intrusive thoughts and/or a critical internal monologue.
- Therapeutic coaching: Drawing on my training as a coach, we can shift the style of our sessions, moving from exploratory work around past and present, towards identifying future goals and the practical steps required to achieve them. This can be particularly useful when navigating specific life transitions (e.g. changing jobs), rebuilding from adverse life experiences (including post-traumatic growth), or consolidating new patterns developed through therapy.
