About me and my therapy practice
Struggling with anxiety, racing thoughts or cycles of overthinking and self-criticism? Maybe you’ve been trying to hold everything together, yet inside you feel exhausted, low or disconnected from who you used to be. You don’t have to face this alone. With the right support, it is possible to feel calmer, clearer and more like yourself again.
I’m Helen Thorpe, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist based in Tooting, South West London, offering both in-person counselling and online therapy across the UK.
I often work with people who are:
- Caught in racing thoughts, anxiety or burnout
- Feeling low, unmotivated or unsure where life is heading
- Managing ADHD and struggling with focus or self-criticism
- Stuck in patterns of perfectionism, shame or people-pleasing
- Navigating big life changes
- Carrying grief, loss or unresolved pain from the past
In our sessions, I offer a warm, grounded and collaborative space where you can slow down, make sense of what’s happening, and begin to heal the parts of yourself that feel hidden, overwhelmed or burdened.
Whether you’re seeking short-term support or a deeper exploration of long-held patterns, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and move forward with more confidence and ease.
How I Work
My integrative approach means we can draw on a range of therapeutic tools. I offer:
- Person-centred therapy – a warm, non-judgmental space where you’re truly heard
- Psychodynamic insight – understanding how early experiences shape current patterns
- A flexible toolkit – including CBT, mindfulness, inner child work, Gestalt and creative methods
This allows us to move between emotional depth and practical strategies, depending on what feels most supportive each session.
A Note on Perinatal Mental Health
I have a special interest in supporting women and partners during pregnancy, birth and early parenthood — a time that can bring joy, identity shifts, loss and anxiety. Therapy can be a space to process all of it, without judgement.
Practice description
I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adults from all walks of life, in person at my private practice in Tooting (SW16) and online across the UK. I work with clients experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, low mood, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, and patterns of low self-esteem or self-doubt. Many people seek therapy with me when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward.
Sessions take place in a calm, private setting in Tooting, with the option of walk-and-talk therapy locally for those who find it helpful to reflect while moving. For clients further afield, online sessions provide a flexible and accessible alternative.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I adhere to their ethical framework. My aim is to offer a professional and compassionate space where your experiences are met with genuine care and curiosity. If you’re considering therapy and would like to explore whether we might work well together, I warmly invite you to get in touch.
My first session
I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone or video call so we can briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy and whether I might be the right fit for you. This is a chance for you to ask any questions and get a sense of how I work, with no obligation to continue.
If we decide to move forward, I’ll invite you to complete a short questionnaire before our first session. This helps me understand a little more about you, your background, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. It allows us to make the most of our initial session and begin our work with greater clarity and focus.
The first full session will be a chance for us to explore your goals in more depth and begin to build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. There is no pressure to share everything straight away as we will go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
