About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Angela and welcome to A Room for Change. I offer a safe, non- judgemental and confidential space where you can explore issues you're experiencing in life, begin to understand and make sense of associated thoughts, emotions and behaviours and move towards meaningful change at your own pace.
I understand that taking the first step in reaching out for support can be scary, and finding the right counsellor for you, can feel daunting and overwhelming. I hope that my offer of a free initial meeting, with no obligation, will support you in making that decision and help you feel more confident in understanding how we might be able to work together to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe and supportive space. We will go at your pace, ensuring you feel heard and understood, with no judgement.
I am an integrative counsellor, trained in both person centred and psychodynamic approaches, as well as having an interest and additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Anaylsis. Working flexibly with different approaches tailored to your needs, is crucial to supporting your growth and change over time. Even small changes can have a significant positive impact on our wellbeing. Understanding patterns of thoughts, emotions and behaviours and past experiences, can help you to understand what is influencing the challenges you are currently experiencing.
I have a specific interest in deafness and have worked for many years with children and adults with significant hearing loss. This can bring a sense of grief and loss for parents who have a child with a diagnosis of severe or profound hearing loss. Sudden or progressive loss in older children and adults can bring up many emotions such as fear, loss of confidence, independence, a sense of isolation as communication becomes more difficult, low self esteem and worth. If this is you, then I would love to work with you to support you with the challenges you are experiencing.
Practice description
I offer face to face and online sessions via video call, and have experience working through telephone calls too.
My therapy room is in Long Bennington near Newark.
Individual sessions are £50 a session and I offer concessions to students.
My first session
In our first session, the main aim is to create a safe and warm space, where you feel comforatable and can relax. We can talk about what bought you to counselling. I will explain my way of working as a counsellor and important areas such as confidentiality.
I will ask a few questions about you and a little about the difficulties you are currently experiencing. We can then talk about how we might work together to explore these further. If you decide that you would like to continue with regular sessions, I will ask you to read and sign a therapy contract outlining how we will work together moving forward.
There is no obligation after the first initial meeting, if you feel the approach I'm suggesting is not for you. I can sign post to other professionals if appropriate.
