About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Laura. I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working with young people and adults, located in Wokingham town centre, Berkshire.

Seeking support during difficult times can be one of the hardest steps to take.

I deeply value honesty in those who are wanting to face their challenges and work through them. Therapy offers a safe and non-judgmental space where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings. With my support, we can work together to process what you're going through, and begin to reframe and repack those experiences in a way that allows meaningful change to happen for you.

With a background in coaching and experience working as a therapist within schools and clinics, I can support you to work with those parts of self that keeping you feeling stuck, overwhelmed or drained.

Practice description

Every individual and their self-concept is constructed in a unique way and my practice will be tailored to meet your needs.

I work in a relational way which allows a deeper level of empathy to understand how you must be experiencing your distress. I bring focus to unconscious processes, patterns of thoughts and behaviours which can influence how you relate to yourself and the world around you.

These processes can derive from your childhood experiences or more recent events in your life. We work together to explore these at your pace, bring them forward to your awareness so that you can make decisions about how you can move forward with those experiences you may carry.

This will then alleviate the distress, help you feel more grounded and connected with yourself and your inner world.

My first session

Our initial session, whether it is in person or online, will be a exploration of where you are currently and what you'd like to gain from therapy. This will help us identify if we'd like to continue working together and also how working together might look for you.

There may be reasons why we wouldn't be able to work together, if this arises we will discuss them together and I will support you to finding a professional who is more suited to meet your needs.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an associate and director of Thames Valley Therapy Clinic, here I specialise in working with children and young people.

Our clinic is set up in a quite location in between Bracknell, Wokingham and Crowthorne. It provides a safe and peaceful space for individual's to find support for their distress in a calm and nurturing environment.

Developing a supportive and therapeutic relationship with a young person means an adaptive approach to meeting their needs. Talking about what is bothering you underneath isn't easy and frequently it won't be the decision of the young person to look for support as talking may not feel like a safe way of coping.

I build the relationship through creativity, physical movement, play and empathy. Providing a confidential space for an individual to be themselves.

Utilising different therapeutic modalities to work towards goals a young person might have, whether it is trauma informed, self-awareness and confidence building. Anxiety, depression and self-harming behaviours.

Practice description

As an integrative practitioner, I can adapt my approach to supporting client's needs. Whether it is emotional dysregulation in the moment, carrying shame from recent events, behavioural issues at home or at school, emotional school based avoidance, neurodivergence, I utilise a child-centred approach to supporting a way in which a child or young person can express what they are experiencing. This can then help form coping mechanisms and strategies to practice which can help alleviate their symptoms of distress.

I naturally work within a psychodynamic approach which works with unconscious processes and defense mechanisms developed through traumatic events or experiences, informative history, relating with others, including attachment and developmental processes.

My first session

There is an initial consultation with parents or guardians of the young person to discuss their concerns, this is completed over the phone or via an online meeting. There is no charge for this.

Within the first session of meeting, the young person will meet with me with their parent/guardian and if they feel comfortable being on their own then the session will continue this way. At the end the young person will decide if they'd liked to continue with me as their therapist as this is crucial for them to feel comfortable with me and within the environment.
