About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Siobhan.
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or low self-esteem? Maybe you are experiencing difficulties with a particularly stressful relationship, or perhaps you are feeling disconnected and have lost sight of your Self. Have you been told you’re ‘too much’ when actually you don’t feel seen, valued or enough?
Maybe you are experiencing the pain, shame and isolation of addiction. I also bring many years of experience supporting people in 12 step recovery so I see you, and I provide a completely safe and non-judgemental space to explore these struggles.
In our sessions, we will take time to understand your relationship patterns - where they began, how they’ve protected you, and how they might now be keeping you stuck. I don't use buzzword phrases such as ‘think positive’ or ‘let them.' It’s about getting curious about what’s really going on underneath, and rebuilding a more honest relationship with yourself. We might explore your past experiences which is really useful in seeing how they shape your present relationship dynamics. We do this because it helps explain why you keep finding yourself in relationships which don't serve you. We may also use creative tools to help deal with difficult experiences, or breathing and mindfulness techniques to help with regulating your nervous system and feelings of anxiety or numbness.
Practice description
I offer sessions both in person and online to anywhere within the UK making it convenient to fit around your life schedule.
I support people from a wide range of backgrounds and with many different challenges, including:
- Anxiety and Depression
- Low mood or motivation
- Low self-esteem and self-worth
- Trauma
- Addiction and recovery
- Relationship difficulties
- Grief, loss and life transitions
Being a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) means I adhere to its framework, and demonstrates that I meet the high standards of proficiency, professionalism and ethical practice that you deserve.
This is a collaborative process, but my practice is grounded in a person-centred approach which means you are front and centre to the work. I will do my best to ensure that we establish a trusting and relaxed relationship from the beginning.
If you are thinking about therapy, or have any questions, I invite you to get in touch for a free 15 minute informal chat. This gives you the opportunity to tell me a bit about what you would like to get from therapy and ask any questions you may have. If we think we might be a good fit we can arrange a full session and take things from there.
I am committed to ensuring an inclusive, anti-oppressive environment and I warmly welcome everyone regardless of belief; background; identity; heritage and ability.
My first session
First sessions are often nerve-wracking, especially if you are new to therapy. I will do my best to put you at ease, and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
After our introductory call, we will meet either in person or online for a full 50 mins. During the initial session, we will briefly agree on what we can expect from each other, and I will ask you some questions about your background. This is to give me a broader sense of your concerns and what you hope to gain from therapy. From there, the form-filling can be put to one side and you will have the opportunity to explore in detail whatever it is that is concerning you in much more depth.
Your autonomy is important to me, so we will work at your pace; there is no pressure to talk about anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. My hope is that together, we can co-create a relationship where you feel trusting enough to come as you are. If you're angry, upset, scared, mistrusting - all emotions are welcome with me. You don't need to censor yourself or put on any airs or graces; if you're sweary, it's all good - just be yourself. I create a safe environment where you feel able to unpick difficult thoughts and emotions.
Maybe you have specific issues and a definite idea of what you want to gain from our time - maybe you don't. Very often other 'stuff' comes up as if from nowhere; it's all part of the process.
I invite you to get in touch today and take that first step to healing, and feeling closer to the person you deserve to be.
