About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Michelle and I am an integrative counsellor. I understand how daunting it can feel starting counselling but It's a brave step towards change and you don't have to do it alone. I am often described as a warm, calm, patient, non-judgmental person who is easy to talk to.
I work with people to help them understand why they feel anxious or on edge all the time, even when life seems good. Perhaps you are functioning well at work, and then when you get home you start to struggle. I will help you understand why you feel this way, and explain how the work we will do together will help bring change into your life, so that you can start living, enjoying life.
I also work with people who have been struggling with relationships. Together we will explore the challenges you have experienced, and try to identify any patterns and how to make meaningful change.
Finally, I will also help you understand how your mind has affected your body, panic, that unexplained chronic pain that seems to get worse with anxiety.
I work in an integrative way, adapting my approach to meet your needs. Our sessions are led by what feels most important to you, and we will move at your pace.
Many people I work with have experienced difficult or painful early relationships, and may still be feeling the effects of those relationships in their adult lives.
I will help you understand the loneliness, disconnect feelings you experience, or fear of being in a room with lots of people are related to your childhood. I will also help you understand the yearning you have for connection, and when you start to feel close to someone, you find yourself pushing them away.
Together we will start a journey of healing, of change, to help you break free from the chains of emotions, reactions, responses that have governed your life.
I currently have space in my practice to welcome new clients, please feel free to contact me.

My first session
Our first session is an opportunity for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from therapy. It is a space for you to begin sharing what feels most important, at your own pace, without pressure.
I may ask some gentle questions to understand your current difficulties, relevant background, and what support might feel helpful. This session also allows us to consider whether we feel comfortable working together. If at any point you decide it does not feel like the right fit, you are under no obligation to continue.
At the beginning, I will explain confidentiality and its limits, so you are clear about how your information is kept safe. I will also outline how I work, including session structure and practical arrangements.
