About me and my therapy practice

Hey, I’m Mike. I’m a kind, open minded and approachable person. I’m here to offer a space where you can be supported, talk openly, and feel understood.

I bring specialist insight into gambling and gaming related challenges, informed by both my clinical work and seven years of experience engaging with young people in the amateur e-sports scene. This background has proven invaluable in building rapport with my youngest clients already. My knowledge of how companies and the culture in online gaming encourages and facilitates gambling or obsessive playing massively helped in forming that trust, and understanding that is vital in a therapeutic relationship.

However, my practice is not limited to gaming, gambling, or addiction. I work with a wide variety of concerns, including:

Anxiety

Depression

Grief

Identity struggles

Life transitions

Relationship difficulties

Self esteem

Stress

Trauma

Workplace pressure

And more.

I am an accredited BACP-registered practitioner with an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My clinical experience includes over 100 hours of counselling at CGL (Change, Grow, Live) Halton in Runcorn, where I supported individuals navigating addiction, trauma, and recovery. Working alongside teams in opioids, criminal justice, and family wellbeing, I independently managed complex caseloads, with excellent supervisory support. I received consistently positive feedback from clients, managers, and key workers for my compassionate and grounded approach.

If something you’ve read here today resonates, I hope you get in touch, and we can have an initial chat. You don’t have to figure things out alone.

Practice description

I bring a person-centred approach rooted in empathy, clarity, and respect for each individuals’ journey. I excel at creating a calm, caring, non-judgemental space that cultivates a strong therapeutic relationship with clients.

Currently I am offering online sessions via Zoom, and these sessions will be 50 minutes long. I typically work with a planned amount of sessions with a client of between 6 to 12 sessions. This is verbally agreed during our free-of-cost initial chat. This number of sessions can be extended if we both feel it is appropriate when nearing the time.

My first session

I offer an initial 30 minute session to everyone free of charge, to have an informal chat to get to know each other a little. This will hopefully help figure out if I'm the counsellor for you, and will provide opportunity to talk about any questions or concerns about future counselling sessions.
