About me and my therapy practice
A little about me and how I work
Let's be honest, life can be a lot sometimes, can't it?
And sometimes, no matter how hard we try to keep everything together, things just feel too much.
Perhaps your mind never switches off. Maybe you're worrying about everything, feeling anxious, struggling in a relationship, burnout, feeling lost, overwhelmed or simply not feeling like yourself anymore. Perhaps something has happened that has turned your world upside down, and you're trying to work out how to move forward..
Whatever has brought you here, I'd like you to know that you don't have to have all the answers before we talk. You don't even have to know exactly what's wrong.
I'm not here to judge you, tell you how to live your life or give you a list of things you should be doing differently. I'm here to listen, to understand and to help you make sense of whatever is going on for you.
My approach is down to earth, compassionate, honest, warm and very much about you as an individual. I believe counselling should feel like a conversation with someone you can be yourself around. You can laugh, cry, get frustrated, sit quietly or say things you've never felt able to say out loud before.
We can explore the things that are troubling you, look at patterns that might be holding you back and find ways to help you feel more in control of your life.
And if you don't know where to start, that's absolutely fine too. We can start there.
You don't need to wait until you're at breaking point to talk to someone. You don't have to struggle on just because you think you should be able to cope.
Sometimes the first step is simply talking to someone who isn't part of your everyday life, someone who will really listen.
So, if something in what I've written feels familiar, why not get in touch? We can have a chat and see whether working together feels right for you.
Practice description
What are you dealing with right now, Anxiety? Relationship issues? Menopause? Depression? Lack of confidence to change things in your life? What's troubling you? I believe these three words can help us understand the process:
Heal
Giving my clients a nurturing, judgment-free environment where you can feel safe to explore painful or confusing experiences and begin to process them at your own pace, starting your healing process,
Change
Through really talking, insight, and confidentiality, we work together to uncover patterns, shift perspectives, and build tools for real, lasting change for you. Your trust is sacred, and your privacy is always respected.
Grow
Therapy isn't just about helping solve problems. It's about helping you grow into a stronger, more confident version of yourself. I believe in your capacity for growth, even when things feel hard or unclear.
I believe that every person is unique, which is why I offer an integrative tailored approach to counselling. This means I don't follow a one-size-fits-all method. Instead, I draw from different therapeutic approaches to create a plan that's built specifically around your individual needs, experiences, and goals.
For some clients, this might mean using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to work through specific thought patterns. For others, a person-centred approach that focuses on your own insights and self-discovery might be more helpful.
What this means for you is that our work together will be shaped by what you need, not by what a textbook says should work. We'll adapt our approach as we go, ensuring that the support you receive is truly tailored to help you move forward.
I also have special area expertise in MS, Parkinsons and Stroke, and their carers. And experience with military life, serving and Veterans. Together we’ll explore your needs, build resilience, finding hope and confidence for your journey ahead. How ever that may look for the future.
My first session
If you'd like to find out more about how I might help you, I'd be happy to have a brief conversation about what your situation is. There's no commitment, just an opportunity to discuss your needs and see if we might be a good fit to work together. This is at no cost and will last about 20 minutes.
If you decide to go ahead with therapy with myself, your first counselling appointment with me involves an assessment, which is simply a chance for us to get to know each other and understand what has brought you here. We’ll talk about your current situation, any challenges you’re facing, and what you hope to achieve from counselling. I may ask some questions about your background, wellbeing, and support networks, but there’s no rush, you can share only what you feel comfortable with. This session also gives you the opportunity to ask me questions, learn about how I work, and decide if you feel I am the right fit for you. Together, we’ll start to outline a plan to support your needs moving forward.
Brief telephone consultation at no charge to discuss your needs and see if we're a good fit to work together
