About me and my therapy practice
Life can be hard sometimes, it is easy to find ourselves feeling lost, anxious, worried, unsure, depressed, stressed or overwhelmed.
Challenges such as relationship difficulties, loss or bereavement can leave us feeling like we have lost our sense of self, and we are alone.
Counselling offers an opportunity to have your voice heard, to express your true thoughts and feelings and gives you the space and support you need.
I came to become a counsellor later in life, with my path to counselling shaped by a lifetime of people-focused work.
The training to be a counsellor is long and challenging, there is a lot of reflection on your own life, your relationships and your core beliefs. Having my own personal therapy showed me the true power of the counselling process, it isn’t always easy and sometimes you don’t want to go but the benefits are worth the hard work!
I now feel more content with myself as a person, and more accepting of the difficulties I have experienced over the years.
As your counsellor I will listen, hear and understand you without passing judgement. Life events leave their imprint on us and I will support you to unpick what are your own beliefs and thoughts, and what are those that have been passed onto you over time. I will support you to make sense of whatever it is that you feel is holding you back, or is troubling you.
Practice description
I am a Person-Centred Counsellor, and I believe that given the right support and conditions, you can find the answers and the way through your struggles. By us building together a trusting and honest relationship I can support you to can sort through your thoughts and feelings and decide the right way forward for you. I will not tell you what to do, but I will support you by offering you an opportunity to have your voice heard and listened to without judgement, to challenge your thinking and to recognise aspects of yourself that you have not seen before.
I will be a calm and consistent person for you within our sessions.
Sessions are 50 mins long, and clients usually attend weekly, however fortnightly sessions can be arranged. There is no limit to the number of sessions we have together, this is your choice, and we will talk about how we are finding the sessions as we go along.
My first session
Our first meeting is a free session, usually about 30 mins long. This can be online or in person.
This session enables us both to see if we think we are a good fit to work together. I will ask you a few questions, such as what brings you to counselling now, what would you like to achieve by having counselling etc and it gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have too.
Should you decide you want to work with me, we will then book in future sessions.
