About me and my therapy practice
I am a queer and neurodivergent therapist looking to provide a safe, non-judgemental space for other queer, neurodivergent, and/or polyamorous people. I offer mixed-methods therapy with a CBT focus, with an adaptable approach to suit your needs. I have experienced the profound impact that therapy can have on a person's wellbeing, motivation and quality of life, both personally and through those close to me.
I have over six years of academic and practical experience in the field of psychology, having done an undergraduate degree and Master's degree at the University of Hull before obtaining my Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Group Work with the Centre of Therapy and Counselling Studies. It is now my goal to guide others through this process. I am committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based support to help my clients navigate their challenges.
Practice description
I am acutely aware of how both queerness and neurodiversity are misunderstood and misrepresented, both in the therapeutic field and more widely, and so I am passionate about creating a service that takes these issues and needs seriously, offering people the help they need in a way that works for them without fear of being judged or patronised.
Some people view CBT as rigid and form-driven, but I believe the tools should serve the therapy, not dictate it. My approach is client-centred and flexible; I tailor each session to what the client needs at that moment. Ultimately it is the client's session, and I work with them to make sure it best suits their needs.
My first session
When you contact me I will first offer a free 30 minute telephone call to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and to see if you feel comfortable working with me. I will then send you an assessment form to be completed before our first paid session. During the session, I will review any pertinent details from the form, as well as completing a Core 34 questionnaire to get an overview of your current mental health. After this, we will discuss what you are hoping to get out of therapy and start the process of turning that into tangible goals that we will use to chart your progress.
