About me and my therapy practice
I understand how overwhelming and daunting the initial steps towards reaching out for therapy and choosing a therapist can feel. You may not even be sure what you want to say and are seeking.
I have worked for a number of years in an NHS mental health setting where I identified with some of the patients' that I encountered. Many of whom felt lost, lonely, isolated and unseen which worsened during and following the pandemic.
I currently work with people struggling with their mental health and experiencing suicidal crisis, many of whom have a range of mental health diagnoses and difficulties. I also have experience working for a bereavement charity and a women's charity.
With my natural curiosity about people I wanted to allow patients' a space to talk and be heard. Unfortunately this was not always possible within the scope of my job role. I therefore decided to retrain as a therapist so I had professional training and tools to offer clients this space to seek an alternative way forward.
I have a particular interest in what it is that makes us become who we are.
Practice description
My primary focus is relational - noticing the therapeutic relationship as it plays out during sessions between myself and the client. This helps me to gain a sense of the client's world and relationships outside of therapy.
I work as an integrative therapist combining different therapeutic approaches dependent on the situation that arises.
I offer clients an opportunity to speak and disclose at their own pace with my aim to allow them to feel seen and heard. Together we untangle current patterns of behaviour that clients may have adapted in childhood to survive which may no longer be helpful to them in life.
My first session
Please contact me initially via email to outline your counselling needs. I will then respond to discuss an introductory session.
The first session is an opportunity for us to discuss what has brought you to counselling at this time in further detail. We can meet and mutually decide if we want to continue to work together. Should you decide to proceed we will agree a therapy contract for subsequent sessions.
