About me and my therapy practice

Do you wake up with a low-level dread before you've even got out of bed, wondering why everything feels so hard when you used to manage so much more?

Maybe you're tired of being the one everyone turns to, with no one who will listen to you and understand what you're going through. Perhaps you're facing a life transition - the future feels frightening, and you've lost your sense of who you are and what comes next. Or you may feel broken inside and be barely getting through each day.

If any of this sounds familiar, I'd like to help. Together we can look at what would make things feel more manageable, and I can help you find the tools to rediscover yourself and rebuild your self-esteem.

I know how this feels, as I've had my own struggles with my mental health, and that is a big part of why I'm so passionate about supporting others through theirs.

Trauma-informed support

I have recently completed additional training in trauma-informed practice. Trauma might be something you've lived with over a long time, or a single event that has deeply affected you. That could include childhood abuse, domestic violence, sexual abuse, a serious accident, or witnessing violence. If it's affecting your daily life, we would start by helping you feel grounded and stable in the present. We'd only look at what happened if and when you want to.

My background

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 20 years in the police, specialising in child protection and supporting victims of sexual abuse. I trained as a counsellor to build on that work with survivors of child abuse and of historic and recent sexual abuse.

I have also worked with people facing stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties and bereavement, among other issues.

I am a Christian and you're welcome to bring your faith into our sessions if that helps you, but I won't raise it unless you do.

If you'd like to find out more, please get in touch for an initial conversation.

Practice description

I believe that you are the expert of your life and my aim is to help you find the solution to what is troubling you, by listening without judgment, and gently helping you explore your thought patterns and any past experiences which may still be impacting you.

Together we can discover where you’d like to be and the best way to get you there.  We will go at your pace and you don’t have to talk about anything until you are ready.

As your counsellor I will listen to you with empathy , helping you to understand your problems better and explore how you want to move forward in a way that feels most suitable for you.

In your initial sessions, we'll explore what is troubling you and work together to see the most appropriate ways to help you make progress. Most of my clients find they feel lighter and less burdened within the first month.

Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

My practice is based in Camberley, providing a safe, confidential and comfortable space for you to talk openly and explore your thoughts and feelings.

For those who enjoy being outside in nature, I also offer outdoor therapy. Some people find it easier to talk about difficult topics whilst they are walking alongside or sitting beside someone rather than face to face.

I’m a qualified counsellor and member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and am trained to work in an integrative way, using a range of approaches to suit your needs, including person-centred and psychodynamic.

I offer short term and long term counselling, depending on your needs and I work in a person-centred and psychodynamic way. I offer face to face therapy, outdoor therapy or online / telephone counselling.

My first session

I understand that reaching out can be difficult, and so I offer a free 20 minute introductory telephone call, so you can decide what counselling with me might be like and see if you think we’re a good fit.

This gives you the opportunity to discuss what brings you to counselling at this time and what you hope to achieve from the therapy.

It gives us both a chance to get a sense of one another, for me to explain how I work and for us to decide if I am the best therapist for you.

If we both feel we can work together we can then agree the best way forward for you.
