About me and my therapy practice

I've always been curious about people. Why we do the things we do, how our experiences shape us and why we sometimes repeat patterns even when we know they're not helping.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent over 20 years working in education as a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher, supporting children, young people and families in both the UK and USA. I also trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles before settling in the UK. These experiences taught me that everyone has their own story, and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

As a therapist, I'm warm, approachable and genuinely interested in getting to know you. I listen carefully, but I'll also ask questions, offer observations and sometimes gently challenge you to look at something differently. Therapy with me isn't about being told what to do or being expected to have all the answers.

You might come to therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in a relationship, unsure of yourself or simply aware that something doesn't feel quite right. We don't need to have everything figured out in our first conversation. We can start wherever you are.

I've worked with people from many different backgrounds and at different stages of life. What continues to interest me is how we make sense of our experiences, navigate relationships and adapt when life doesn't go quite as expected.

My approach combines person-centred and behavioural therapy, helping you understand yourself, recognise patterns and explore meaningful change.

Practice description

People come to therapy for many different reasons and those reasons aren't always easy to put into words.

You might find yourself replaying conversations long after they've ended, questioning whether you've said or done the right thing. Perhaps you're someone who takes responsibility for everyone else's feelings, struggles to say no or feels guilty when you put your own needs first.

You may be doing everything that's expected of you at work or at home, yet feel exhausted, dissatisfied or unsure where you've lost sight of yourself. Relationships might feel complicated, familiar patterns keep repeating or a change in your life has left you wondering what comes next.

Sometimes there's a particular experience, loss or difficulty you want to talk about. Sometimes life looks perfectly fine from the outside, but something doesn't feel right.

These are the kinds of experiences we can explore together. We can look beyond what's happening on the surface, become curious about the patterns underneath and consider what you might want to change.

I offer therapy to adults and young people aged 16+, online across the UK and in person in Sutton, Carshalton and Epsom. My approach combines person-centred and behavioural therapy, bringing together conversation, reflection and practical exploration when helpful.

My first session

Before booking your first session, I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation. It's an opportunity for us to have an initial conversation, for you to ask questions and for us both to consider whether working together feels like the right fit.

If you decide to go ahead, our first 50-minute session is about getting to know one another. I'll ask about what has brought you to therapy, how things have been for you recently and anything from your background that might help me understand your experiences.

You don't need to arrive with a carefully prepared explanation or a list of goals. Some people know exactly what they want to talk about, while others aren't quite sure where to begin. Both are absolutely fine.

We'll also talk about what you're hoping to get from therapy, how we might work together and any questions you have about the process.

There's no expectation to tell me everything in our first meeting. Getting to know someone takes time, and therapy is no different.
