About me and my therapy practice
My way of working is imaginative, compassionate, and deeply reflective. I will hold a confidential, safe and boundaried space where we can explore whatever is difficult, helping you to find your own ways to think about what is painful and distressing.
No matter what you're going through, the aim of our work is to help you make sense of it and, together, explore what might help move your life in a new direction.
I trained and qualified on the highly regarded Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy programme at Brighton University. I maintain a close working relationship with the psychotherapy department so that my work is informed by the broadest thinking and latest research.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
Before qualifying, I worked in places of great privilege and power and places of deprivation, poverty and social exclusion. Presently, I am a director of an alternative provision setting in Brighton which serves 11 - 17 year olds. My broad experience keeps me open to how people meet the challenges and joys their life brings and how they navigate the systems and cultures in which they find themselves.
I welcome people from all backgrounds and of all identities. However you understand yourself, I will endeavour to adapt my approach to suit your individual needs, pace, and way of communicating.
Practice description
My practice is located in Brighton, near Queen's Park, where I offer one-to-one therapy for adults and young people. The space where we will work together is designed to feel safe, calm and contained. There’s parking nearby and good transport connections if you’re coming by bus. For those who prefer or need to connect remotely, I also offer secure online sessions.
Sessions are held weekly, lasting 50 minutes. We can work together on a short-term or on an open-ended basis, depending on what you need. My commitment is always to be transparent about what I can offer and whether I am the right person to help you.
My first session
Getting started can feel difficult. When we first meet, and in any other subsequent sessions, there is no pressure to share anything before you're ready; the goal is to build and maintain a safe and secure therapeutic relationship.
On contacting me, we can arrange a free initial phone call where we can talk about what has brought you to therapy. Our conversation is an opportunity for you to ask questions and get a feeling of how I work. If it feels right, we will schedule a regular weekly session time. In our first session we will build a picture of what you want from therapy and how you might like to work together.
A strong relationship with your therapist is at the heart of meaningful change. I encourage you to meet with more than one therapist so you can gain a sense of the different ways people work and find someone who you feel comfortable and connected with.
I offer both short-term and open-ended work, and we can decide together which approach feels most supportive for you. Your sessions will be 50 minutes and are charged at my standard rate.
Please get in touch to find out more or to arrange an initial phone call.
