About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Sam. I’m a registered psychotherapist offering a warm, steady and confidential space where you can talk openly about what’s going on for you.
Reaching out for therapy can feel daunting. You might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, grieving, struggling with trauma, or trying to make sense of changes in your life or health. Whatever brings you here, you don’t have to face it alone.
I work in a collaborative and compassionate way. I believe that feeling heard, understood and accepted is at the heart of meaningful change. I tailor therapy to each person’s unique needs and pace. Some people prefer gentle conversation and reflection; others find creative approaches, imagery or metaphor helpful. Together, we find what works for you.
I work in a trauma-informed way and pay close attention to what feels safe and manageable, particularly if you experience intrusive thoughts, fear or self-criticism.
Alongside my private practice, I have experience working in NHS outpatient settings, supporting adults facing emotional distress alongside physical health challenges. I have also worked in a hospice, supporting individuals and families living with life-limiting illness and bereavement. This has deepened my understanding of how closely our emotional and physical wellbeing are connected, especially during times of uncertainty and loss.
At the heart of my work is a belief in your capacity for growth and healing. My role is to walk alongside you with compassion and steadiness as you find your way forward.
Practice description
I offer one-to-one therapy for adults in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. Sessions are 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, either in person (from my private home-based practice), online or by telephone.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am a registered member of the BACP.
I work with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, life transitions and the emotional impact of physical health conditions. I also have experience supporting clients who have previously been diagnosed with OCD and PTSD.
My approach is flexible and tailored to you. Some sessions may focus on understanding patterns and past experiences; others may centre on coping strategies, grounding techniques or building emotional resilience. Where appropriate, I may gently incorporate creative approaches, imagery or metaphor, always at a pace that feels safe.
I work in a trauma-informed way and place strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. Feeling safe, heard and understood is central to our work together, particularly if you are living with fear, shame or self-criticism.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call before arranging a first appointment. This gives you the opportunity to briefly share what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions and see whether working together feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue.
If we decide to go ahead, our first full session lasts 50 minutes. This is a space for you to talk in more depth about what is happening in your life and what you would like support with. We will explore your hopes for therapy and begin to think about how we might work together.
I may ask a few gentle questions about what’s been happening for you and any support you have around you. This simply helps me understand you better and think about how best to support you.
The first session is as much about you getting a feel for me as it is about me getting to know you. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to effective therapy, so it’s important that you feel safe and comfortable.
