About me and my therapy practice

Reshape your life with counselling, one small step at a time.

I'm Liza and here at Elbee Counselling, I offer one to one, down to earth, compassionate therapy, that is always tailored to be individual to you. Counselling that will help, when you are feeling overwhelmed, lost, or stuck. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, family issues, anger, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, bereavement, relationship breakdowns, or feeling sad. I am here to guide you through it.

Why choose me?

I have lived experience of family addiction, parental estrangement, and self-worth struggles. This means I understand the strength and courage it takes to reach out to a counsellor. I also bring almost thirty years of real world experience, from my previous career in plumbing and heating, which has helped me to build a unique and down to earth approach to counselling.

This experience, combined with my professional training and experience, allows me to offer a whole person, empathetic approach, offering a space where you can bring your whole self, feel safe, feel seen and be heard.

Alongside supporting you with self-worth, confidence issues, anxiety, grief and relationship struggles, I also specialise in:

Men’s Mental Health

Creating a safe space for men to explore their mental well-being. I have thirty years of real world experience in operations within builders and plumbers merchants. This means that I understand male anger instead of stigmatising it. I also offer support to partners of women in menopause who are struggling to navigate the changes to their partner and their relationship.

Difficult relationships and Parental Estrangement

A large part of my work is supporting adults who feel shaped and often stuck, due to difficult relationships, painful relationships with their parents or estranged parent-child relationships.

Difficult relationships can often bring a sense of shame, loss, grief and feelings of failure or frustration at having been left behind.

Practice description

I love working with people and believe that everyone has within them the power to change and grow, whilst working towards their true potential.

I am an integrative counsellor, therefore our sessions will always be rooted in Person Centred theory. This means that you will do most of the talking, whilst I listen to you carefully, allowing me to understand your experiences. I will never offer you advice or try to fix you, however I may as sessions progress introduce some TA or CBT theory if it feels it may be of benefit to you.

Online or telephone counselling is easy to book and can fit easily into your life as you can have it from anywhere, home, office the car or van, so long as the location is safe and confidential.

My first session

Ahead of our first session I will send you a client information form to be completed before the session.

I will also send you my contract for you to look over. During the first session we will talk though the contract and what it means to you. I will then request that you sign after the first session.

I will then use the remainder of the first session to find more out about you, such as who you have in your life, what has brought you to counselling, what you are currently struggling with, what you would like to achieve from counselling and what your priorities are.

If you are not ready to jump straight into a counselling session just drop me a message and we can arrange to have a short phone call where you can ask me any questions you may want answering ahead of starting counselling.

About me and my therapy practice

Do you feel that you can't be yourself?

Perhaps you've spent years trying to fit in and keep everyone happy. You might hide parts of yourself, worry about what people think or feel different, misunderstood or never quite enough. You're tired of keeping everything together, or perhaps you've reached a point where you don't really know who you are underneath it all.

I'm Liza, and I offer integrative counselling and EFT tapping to adults who want to understand themselves better, work through difficult experiences and feel more comfortable being themselves.

I will never see you as a problem to be fixed. Our experiences, relationships and the expectations placed upon us can shape how we see ourselves. Sometimes we become so used to adapting to other people that we lose sight of who we are and what we want or need.

My approach is flexible and tailored to you. Talking therapy is a wonderful thing, but sometimes talking alone isn't enough. As an Applied EFT Practitioner, I also integrate tapping into my counselling work, offering another way to explore and work with difficult thoughts, feelings and experiences.

Coming from a working-class background, with almost thirty years of experience in the plumbing and builders' merchants industry before retraining, means that I bring a practical, down-to-earth approach to our work. I'm also late diagnosed ADHD, which informs my interest in neurodivergence and the different ways people experience the world.

You don't need to have the right words, explain yourself perfectly or know where to start. You can bring yourself exactly as you are, and we'll take it from there.

Practice description

I work with adults from different backgrounds and walks of life, including people who have spent much of their lives feeling different, misunderstood or unable to be themselves.

I have a particular interest in neurodivergence, including ADHD and autism. As someone with lived experience of late-diagnosed ADHD, I understand that trying to navigate a world that doesn't always make sense for you can be exhausting. Whether you've received a diagnosis, are exploring the possibility or have spent years trying to understand yourself, I will always offer neuro-affirming counselling without judgement.

I'm also LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with queer and GSRD clients around identity, sexuality, relationships, belonging and the experiences that can come with navigating a world that doesn't always understand or accept you. I have experience working with trans clients and you, the real you, will always be welcome in my counselling space.

Alongside this, I support people experiencing low self-worth, people pleasing, guilt, shame, anxiety, emotional overwhelm and difficult relationships. This includes adults struggling with painful family relationships, parental estrangement and the impact these experiences can have on how they see themselves and relate to others.

Due to my merchanting background I often work with male clients, including those who might not feel particularly comfortable with the idea of counselling. You don't need to arrive knowing how to talk about your feelings or have everything figured out. We can work that out together.

My first session

Ahead of our first session I will send you a client information form, which is just a few details about you, to be completed ahead of the session. If you would prefer to complete this together during the session, we can do that instead.

I will also send you my contract for you to look over and sign. During the first session we will talk though the contract and what it means to you and I will answer any questions you may have.

I will then use the remainder of the first session to find more out about you, such as who you have in your life, what has brought you to counselling, what you are currently struggling with, what you would like to achieve from counselling and what your priorities are.

If you are not ready to jump straight into a counselling session just drop me a message and we can arrange to have a short phone call, email exchange or text chat, where you can ask me any questions you may have or simply want answered ahead of starting counselling.
