Availability
I currently have availability for new clients and would love to hear from you. I offer sessions Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm, in person and 10am-8pm online. I also offer concessionary rates for those on a low income or in financial hardship, and for trainee counsellors working towards their qualification. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, please don't hesitate to get in touch — I'm happy to have an informal conversation about what might work for you.
About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Fiona — a person-centred counsellor based in Aberdeen, registered with both the BACP and COSCA. I'm drawn to this work by a deep belief that everyone deserves to be truly heard, without having to perform, edit or soften any part of themselves to be welcome.
I offer counselling in a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences — without labels, assumptions or agendas.
My practice is trauma-informed, which means I understand that difficult experiences — whether a single event or something that unfolded over many years — can leave a lasting imprint on the mind, body and nervous system. We'll work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you, with choice and control kept firmly in your hands. You won't be asked to share more than feels right, or to revisit anything before you're ready.
I am also committed to inclusive, anti-oppressive practice. I work with people of all identities, backgrounds and communities, and take care to recognise how systems of power, privilege and oppression can shape our lives and wellbeing. Whoever you are and whatever you bring, you are welcome here exactly as you are.
At the heart of my work is a relationship built on trust, safety and genuine care. I aim to meet you with warmth and acceptance, to truly understand your world from your perspective, and to be real and honest with you rather than hiding behind a professional mask. Within that kind of space, many people find they begin to trust themselves again, make sense of what they've been through, and move forward in a way that feels authentically their own.
I offer a free 20-minute introductory call — in person, via Zoom or by phone — so you can ask questions and get a feel for whether we're a good fit, with no pressure to continue.
Practice description
Your first session is a chance for us to meet gently, get to know each other a little, and begin laying the groundwork for our work together — at a pace that feels right for you.
If we're meeting in person, there's a comfortable waiting area in reception where you can settle in when you arrive. I'll come down to meet you at the time of your appointment, and we'll make our way to the counselling room together. If we're meeting on Zoom, I'll send you the link the day before so you have everything you need ready.
I don't ask clients to complete assessments or fill out forms before we begin. You are so much more than anything a questionnaire could capture, and I'd rather we use our time getting to know each other through conversation.
We'll spend the first ten minutes or so going through the working agreement together. This covers things like confidentiality and its limits, session length, cancellation policy, how we'll keep in touch between sessions, and how we'll review our work as we go. I'll talk you through everything gently, and there'll be plenty of space for any questions.
After that, the rest of the session is yours. There's no fixed structure and no expectation about what you "should" bring. Some people arrive with a clear sense of what they want to talk about; others aren't sure where to begin — and both are absolutely okay. There is no right way to start counselling, and you don't need to have the words ready before you arrive.
My hope is that, by the end of our first session, you'll feel a little clearer about how we'll work together, and a little more at ease in the space. You stay in charge of what you share, when, and how — from our very first meeting onwards.
