I’m David James, an integrative counsellor and therapist based in Cardiff. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). My approach is grounded in empathy, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to supporting you in a safe, non-judgmental space.
I believe that therapy is a collaborative and empowering process where you are heard, accepted, and supported to explore your unique story and challenges at your own pace. My work is focused on helping you find clarity, healing, and growth, whether you are facing specific difficulties or seeking personal development.
Practice description
I offer integrative counselling tailored entirely to you. Combining proven approaches like Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt therapy, creative therapies, and a special focus on Rewind Therapy, I create a therapy experience that adapts to your unique needs, goals, and pace.
Rewind Therapy is a gentle but powerful trauma treatment that helps you release the emotional impact of distressing memories without having to relive them in detail. Many clients find this approach transformative—often experiencing relief from trauma symptoms, anxiety, and intrusive memories more quickly and safely than with traditional therapies. It’s a compassionate, client-friendly method that empowers you to reclaim your life from the past in a way that feels safe and manageable.
Alongside Rewind, I use CBT to provide practical tools for managing anxiety, depression, stress, and other challenges. Gestalt therapy helps you connect deeply with your present experience and relationships, encouraging self-awareness and authentic living. Creative therapies offer alternative, expressive outlets for emotions that are hard to put into words, supporting healing and insight in different, often liberating ways.
At the heart of my work is a humanistic, client-centred approach. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey where you are the expert on your life. My role is to offer empathy, respect, and support, creating a safe space where you can explore your story, develop insight, and find practical strategies to move forward.
Whether you are facing trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or seeking personal growth, I am here to support you with kindness, professionalism, and flexibility—helping you discover your own strengths and solutions at a pace that feels right.
My first session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, so I strive to make our first session as welcoming and straightforward as possible. It’s an opportunity for us to connect and for you to get a sense of what working together might be like.
There’s absolutely no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with—we’ll move at your pace. My role is to listen with empathy and create a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard and understood.
During our time together, we’ll explore what has brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. I’ll also explain how I work and what you can expect from the therapeutic process. Whether you’re seeking short-term support or a longer-term journey, we’ll develop a plan tailored to your needs.
Sessions typically last around 50 minutes and can take place either in person at my practice in Cardiff or online via a secure platform. The first session is charged at the usual rate, with no obligation to continue unless you feel it’s the right fit for you.
My hope is that after our meeting, you’ll leave with a clearer sense of whether this is the supportive space you need to begin your journey toward healing and personal growth.
