About me and my therapy practice
Many of us spend years believing there is something wrong with us, when our struggles make sense in light of what we have lived through. Anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship difficulties or a persistent feeling of not being "good enough" rarely appear without a history. More often, they reflect the ways we have learned to adapt, survive and protect ourselves.
My approach to therapy begins with curiosity. Instead of asking, "What's wrong with you?", I am interested in understanding what has shaped your experience and how it continues to influence the way you relate to yourself and others. Making sense of these experiences and patterns can open up the possibility of change. It can help us understand ourselves with greater clarity and compassion, and find different ways of relating to ourselves and others.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, OCD, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions and emotional distress.
Specialist area: Religious trauma, spiritual abuse and recovery from high-control religious groups.
I have a particular interest in supporting people affected by these experiences. Leaving a high-control religious group, or beginning to question beliefs you have held for years, can raise difficult questions about identity, trust, guilt and belonging. You may find yourself questioning your judgement, struggling with relationships or trying to work out what you believe now. Therapy can help you make sense of these experiences and reconnect with your own values and sense of self.
Practice description
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic perspectives depending on what you bring to therapy and what feels relevant to your needs.
I am interested in how past experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, relate to others and respond to difficulties in the present. Sometimes, ways of thinking and relating that once helped us cope can become a source of difficulty later in life. Therapy gives us an opportunity to look at these patterns together and consider where they come from and how they affect you now.
I believe this takes time. You don't need to arrive with all the answers or know exactly what you want to talk about. We can work things through at a pace that feels manageable, making room for uncertainty as well as the things that may be difficult to put into words.
My hope is that this work helps you develop a better understanding of yourself, trust your own judgement and make choices that reflect what matters to you, rather than what others expect of you.
I offer therapy in both English and Italian.
My first session
Starting therapy can feel like a significant step. You may feel nervous, uncertain or unsure about where to begin. That's perfectly understandable.
Our first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy. I'll ask some questions about your current situation, your background and what you hope to get from counselling. You don't need to tell me everything at once or have a clear idea of what you want to work on. We can take things at a pace that feels manageable for you.
It's also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. You're welcome to ask questions or raise any concerns you may have. We can then consider together whether working with me feels like the right fit for you.
