About me and my therapy practice
Have you ever felt that parts of you had to shrink in order to belong?
Many of the people I work with carry anxiety, guilt, or self-doubt that didn’t start overnight. Often, it grows in environments where there wasn’t much room to question, disagree, or fully be yourself.
Over time, you may find yourself overthinking decisions, fearing mistakes, struggling to trust your own judgement, or feeling disconnected from who you really are.
I’m Mattia, a BACP-registered counsellor offering therapy in East London and online across the UK, in English or Italian. I’ve worked with organisations including Mind and Headstrong Counselling.
Many people worry that therapy will just involve “talking about problems.” In reality, therapy is about helping you move forward.
I support adults who feel stuck in patterns shaped by pressure, control, or high expectations, whether in families, relationships, workplaces, or belief systems. Together, we explore how these experiences have influenced you, and begin strengthening your sense of autonomy and self-trust.
Therapy with me is a space where you can think freely, feel safely, and gradually reconnect with your own voice.
Practice description
My approach is steady, reflective, and collaborative, but also purposeful.
We pay close attention to what’s happening in your life now: the situations that trigger anxiety, guilt, self-doubt, or emotional shutdown. When it feels useful, we explore how earlier experiences or environments may have shaped the way you respond, especially if you learned to prioritise belonging, safety, or approval over your own needs.
The aim isn’t to analyse or pathologise you. It’s to understand the patterns that once helped you survive or adapt, but may now be limiting your sense of freedom or self-trust.
Therapy becomes a place where you can slow down, notice your internal responses, and experiment with relating to yourself differently. Over time, this often leads to greater clarity, firmer boundaries, and a stronger sense of autonomy in relationships and decisions.
I also offer counselling for Cult Recovery, Religious Trauma, Spiritual Abuse, and support when leaving Cults or High Demand Groups.
My first session
Your first session is 60 minutes, giving us space to explore what brought you to counselling. You can share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
Feeling nervous is completely normal. My role is to make the session feel safe, calm, and supportive, so you can start exploring your thoughts and feelings without worry. From the first meeting, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and respected.
