About me and my therapy practice
You may have clicked on my profile, amongst many, to see if I might be the right fit for you. Looking for a counsellor can feel overwhelming and at times tiring especially when you are going through emotional difficulties. As you read through my profile, I hope you’ll get a sense of who I am and how I work, so you can decide what feels like the best fit for your needs. Perhaps something in your life feels heavy or uncertain. Maybe you're experiencing anxiety, depression or feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck or you might be feeling low and sad without being able to understand why. You might be experiencing the emotional impact of past trauma, facing challenges in your relationships, or struggling with low self-esteem and self-worth.
My name is Mattia, I’m a registered member of the BACP offering integrative psychodynamic counselling face to face (in East London) and online across the UK to adult clients.
My practice is grounded in empathy, integrity, and inclusivity. I work short-term and open ended depending on your needs. I am bilingual and I offer counselling in English and Italian. Having experienced firsthand the transformative power of therapy I felt inspired to follow a more meaningful path, one that allows me to support others in their personal growth and healing.
I offer a space where you can safely explore your story, uncover patterns that no longer serve you, and reconnect with your true self. In our counselling sessions, we’ll work to heal emotional wounds, challenge unhelpful behaviours, and foster healthier, more meaningful relationships, develop greater self-awareness, strengthen resilience, and live with more authenticity and clarity.
If you feel that what you have just read resonates with you, I invite you to reach out. I offer a calm, supportive and collaborative space.
Practice description
I am a registered member of the BACP and abide to their Ethical Framework.
I work with adult clients using an integrative approach to therapy and counselling, blending psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives to best support each person’s needs. My practice is grounded in empathy, integrity, and inclusivity.
I offer a compassionate space where you are invited to bring your whole self — including the parts of your story that may feel painful, confusing, or difficult to share. I work with clients using an integrative approach, to meet you where you are and support your unique needs.
I believe that none of us heal in isolation, we are shaped by our families, communities, and wider social and cultural forces. In therapy, I will explore with you these broader influences, at your own pace, safely and ethically by building a therapeutic relationship based on trust and rapport helping you to understand how past experiences, inherited beliefs, and unspoken patterns impact your life today.
SPECIAL AREA OF INTEREST
Support and Therapy for Religious Trauma, Spiritual Abuse, and Leaving Cults or High Demand Groups
I offer counselling for religious trauma, spiritual abuse, faith deconstruction, and recovery from cults or high-control groups, including those that may be religious, political, ideological, therapeutic, or personal in nature. Leaving a high-demand religious group or cult, can involve untangling deep psychological, emotional, and social control. Survivors often face fear, isolation, or confusion as they begin to question long-held beliefs and identities. This process takes immense courage and I will support you in recovering if you have experienced coercive, cultic and/or spiritual abuse.
My first session
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step; and it is. It takes courage to reach out, and I want to honour that by offering you a first session that feels safe, spacious, and grounded in respect for your unique pace and needs. Your first session with me will last 60 minutes. This slightly longer appointment gives us time to get to know one another, explore what has brought you to therapy, and gently begin mapping out the journey ahead.
I see this first session as a collaborative process. It is an opportunity for you to share as much (or as little) of your story as feels comfortable. Together, we’ll look at what you hope to gain from therapy, any difficulties or challenges you’d like to address, and what you need from me as your therapist to feel supported. I will also ask some practical questions about your history, life circumstances, and what’s happening for you right now. This is sometimes called an assessment, but I approach it less as a checklist and more as a compassionate conversation that helps us understand what is going on beneath the surface and how we might work together to create change.
Feeling nervous before your first therapy session is completely natural, you are meeting someone new and sharing personal parts of yourself. My role is to create a welcoming space where you can feel seen, heard, and respected from the very beginning. I bring empathy, warmth, and curiosity to our first meeting, helping you to feel comfortable enough to begin exploring the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that have led you here.
