About me and my therapy practice

Finding a counsellor and starting therapy can feel daunting, can’t it? You may be wondering if I’m the right counsellor for you, or if you could feel comfortable talking to me.

Let’s start by me sharing a bit about me.

I’m Claire (she/her) and I am a qualified integrative counsellor specialising in Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. I hold an MSc in Integrative Counselling and a post-graduate certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions. As an integrative counsellor, I draw from a mix of different approaches catered to what might feel helpful to you.

My approach is grounded in warmth, respect and curiosity as we gently begin to explore what's happening for you beneath the surface. Processing past experiences with a counsellor that you connect with, and taking time to feel your emotions in a secure, judgement-free relationship can help develop understanding of your experiences and patterns that may be shaping your life, and provide the opportunity for something to become unstuck.

Supporting people through difficult times matters to me. Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked in the NHS and in creative industries, with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and a range of ages. I warmly welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, sexualities and cultures. My practice is neurodivergent affirming and LGBTQIA+ friendly. You’re welcome here exactly as you are.

I have a real interest in working with people who have been impacted by trauma and abuse. I have volunteered at women’s charities and sexual health services, providing counselling for women who have been through domestic and sexual abuse. It was these experiences that developed my trauma-informed and relational style as a counsellor. By working together, we have the opportunity to create a trusting environment, focused on healing, where your autonomy is respected and celebrated.

Practice description

My focus is on creating an environment where you feel supported and understood. Having had my own therapy at different points in my life, I know the challenges that come with trying to find a counsellor who could be a great fit. The relationship between client and counsellor is really valuable. So it’s really important to me that you feel comfortable, with me and how we work together. I’m here to be alongside you in what you’re going through right now, and offer you a space that feels comfortable and safe enough for you to show up as yourself and share what’s going on in your life.

This could be something specific, like understanding relationships in your life, having feelings of low self-worth, depression or anxiety, or it could be a general feeling that something just doesn’t feel right. There’s no pressure to know where to start or what you’d like therapy to look like. This is your space to explore what’s going on and we can figure it out together.

My first session

I offer a free 15-minute introductory call, which will give you the opportunity to ask me some questions and get a sense of whether working with me feels right for you.

If you’d like to go ahead, we can book in a first full session. It can be a scary business opening up to someone you don’t know, so in your first session we’ll take some time to go over some of the practical elements of working together (including confidentiality) and gently begin exploring what’s going on for you.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and most people have sessions on the same day and at the same time each week.
