About me and my therapy practice

It's a warm welcome from me, Davina Hanlon, the therapist behind Room To Be You. Based at Cedar Farm in Mawdesley, I offer a compassionate, down-to-earth space to help you process life’s challenges and reconnect with who you are. To get a sense of how I work and see photos of my therapy room, you are warmly invited to browse my website or arrange a visit.

I practice from my dedicated therapy room set within the beautiful surroundings of Cedar Farm. I have taken care to design a warm, grounding, and comfortable private room using natural elements with your wellbeing in mind. Cedar Farm provides a peaceful, creative haven away from the rush of everyday life - a place where you can take a quiet moment for yourself, enjoy the fresh air, and grab a drink or bite to eat before or after your session.

You will also spot Barney on my website - my four-legged co-therapist in heart and spirit! As a devoted dog lover, I feel the relationship we share with our pets captures the very core of my person-centred therapeutic work: pure acceptance, genuine connection, and the space to be fully yourself without judgement. I look forward to offering you the Room To Be You.

Practice description

How I Work

My practice is rooted in the Person-Centred approach, a well-established therapy pioneered by psychologist Carl Rogers. I believe that when you’re offered true empathy, genuine warmth, and a completely judgement-free encounter, you have the space you need to feel heard, heal, and move forward. My role as your therapist is to provide the safe physical and emotional space where that growth can naturally happen.

I also integrate expressive arts based on the work of Carl Rogers’ daughter, Natalie Rogers. She realised that the same safe, gentle, and judgement-free space could be extended into creativity. In my practice, I bring Natalie’s approach to life by offering you the opportunity to explore simple creative materials, sound or movement at your own pace. Together, we blend gentle conversation with creative expression, allowing you to connect with your feelings without ever needing to worry about the finished product.

Your Therapy Choices (Flexible)

Talking Therapy : A compassionate, client-led space to explore your thoughts and feelings, either in-person or online / phone.

Talking Therapy Incorporating Expressive Arts: Gentle, creative exploration (using colour, sound, movement, imagery, or materials) when words feel hard to find - you don't need any previous creative experience at all.

Walk & Talk Therapy: Outdoor therapy sessions set in the fresh air, allowing movement to help process emotions (You’re very welcome to bring along your well-behaved dog).

Single Sessions & Short-Term Therapy: Focused, targeted sessions for specific transitions or immediate clarity.

Long-Term / Open-Ended Therapy: Deeper, ongoing therapeutic work tailored to your ongoing personal growth.

My first session

Taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting, so I aim to make the process as gentle and comfortable as possible. We begin with a free, informal 20-minute introductory chat - either by phone or online - to talk through what brings you to therapy and answer any questions you might have. You are also very welcome to pop by my therapy space at Cedar Farm beforehand to get a feel for the room, or we can meet there in person for our 20-minute chat. I am more than happy to show you around!

In our first full session, we will work entirely at your pace to explore your hopes for therapy, discuss any specific needs or preferences, and establish what feels safe and helpful for you. To ensure you feel completely clear and supported, we will go over a simple Working Agreement and Privacy Policy, so you know exactly what to expect from our time together and how we keep your information safe and confidential. My Privacy Policy is available on my website.

If you’d like to learn a little more about me before reaching out, I invite you to visit my website at www.roomtobeyou.co.uk. You can also browse a photo gallery of my studio along with some of my own creative expressions and photographs. My dog Barney makes an appearance too!
