About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, I'm Emma (she/her).
I'm a therapist who works primarily with a style of therapy called existential psychotherapy. This means that my approach is primarily grounded in existential philosophy and ethics.
I also integrate intersectional feminist, queer and de-colonial therapy perspectives into my work.
Existential therapy does not seek to interpret the challenges of human existence through the lens of disorder or illness. Rather, it invites us to notice, describe and honour our unique ways of responding to life’s dilemmas.
While each therapy process unfolds differently, the relationship we build together is always at its heart. I aim to facilitate a relationship that feels warm, open, and honest.
Under these conditions, I find a unique kind of dialogue can emerge - one that helps us to listen to and better understand our experience of the world.
Practice description
I am a BACP Registered Psychotherapist working with adult individuals in Cambridge (CB1) and online.
I offer short-term and long-term counselling, and I offer weekly sessions for 50 minutes.
I work with adult individuals from a variety of backgrounds and identities, who are seeking deeper understanding of themselves, their experiences, and their context.
I have particular interest and training in working with the LGBTQ+ community.
Drop me an email if you’d like to find out more and we can arrange to 20 minute call to discuss whether we might be a good fit.
My first session
It is important to feel comfortable with your therapist. In fact, you may wish to speak with more than one therapist before making a commitment.
We can start with a free 20 minute call. This is a chance for us to find out a little about each other and see if we both feel comfortable working together.
During this call, you can get a sense of my approach and style, ask any questions about the process, and we can also clarify fees and potential session arrangements. I’ll ask some questions about your background and what’s brought you to therapy.
If it feels right, we can then arrange our first 50-minute session and begin our work together.
