About me and my therapy practice
My practice is rooted in Gestalt, which is a person-centred therapy that focuses on personal growth and the present moment.
We will pay close attention to what’s happening for you and between us in the session — such as your thoughts, feelings, and sensations — as a way to increase your awareness.
Rather than analysing from a distance, Gestalt therapy is experiential. We might use metaphor, devise small creative experiments, use art materials in a simple way or try out mindfulness techniques to explore how you experience yourself and your relationships.
My emphasis will be on encouraging you to be curious and notice new things about yourself. My role will be to support you to fully experience moments of contact and connection, and find your own way forward.
As a Gestalt therapist, I also work in an embodied way. This simply means that what’s happening in your body can be as important as what’s happening in your thoughts or emotions. We will work out a way of discussing this together in our sessions.
Together, we will focus on the ‘here and now’ of your present experience. This collaboration can help clients notice their patterns, take self-responsibility and support them to make changes.
Practice description
If we both decide to work together, we’ll agree on a regular weekly timeslot. Our sessions will take place on the same day of the week and at same time of day. It’s important for our work that we meet regularly and we will discuss this commitment. However, it’s also important to have holidays and we will discuss how this works as part of signing our counselling agreement, which we will sign together.
Sessions last 50 minutes, and take place either in-person at the Gestalt Centre (a short walk from King’s Cross St Pancras or Mornington Crescent/Camden Town) or online via Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
Some clients come for a few months; others choose to stay longer as part of ongoing personal growth. We can review regularly to make sure the work continues to feel right for you. We will also discuss how we bring our work to a close when we come to the end of our time together.
My first session
In the first instance, I offer a twenty-minute phone conversation or video call at no charge. This is so we can initially speak, briefly discuss what you are looking for from therapy and, if you would like to proceed, arrange a first session.
Your first session is a chance for us to meet either in-person or online. We will start to explore what’s bringing you to therapy and what you hope to gain from it. You don’t need to prepare anything — we’ll take it at your pace.
The first and all subsequent sessions are charged at our agreed fee, with invoices issued at the end of each month.
