About me and my therapy practice
I work with both individuals and couples, offering a supportive and collaborative space to explore whatever may be bringing you to therapy. My professional experience includes working as a counsellor within higher education, private practice, and the charity sector, which has given me the opportunity to support a diverse range of clients and experiences.
I describe my approach as pluralistic, which means I tailor the way I work to suit your individual needs, preferences, and goals. I believe that no single approach fits everyone, so we can work together to find what feels most helpful and effective for you.
I offer both short-term counselling and longer-term therapy for individuals and couples, depending on what feels right for you and what you would like to achieve through our work together.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Therapeutic Practice and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Practice description
As a pluralistic practitioner, I work collaboratively with you to understand your goals for therapy and what feels most helpful. This may include drawing on different therapeutic approaches and adapting how we work together to suit your needs and preferences.
We would usually agree on a regular day and time to meet, creating a reliable structure for our work together. Sessions are most often held weekly, although fortnightly appointments can be arranged depending on your preferences and circumstances.
Individual sessions are 60 minutes in length, and couples sessions are 75 minutes.
At the beginning of each session, we may spend a few minutes reflecting on the previous session, noticing any thoughts, feelings, or developments that have arisen since we last met. From there, the session is guided by you, offering space to explore whatever feels most important or relevant. We will work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.
Towards the end of our time together, we will usually take a few minutes to reflect on the session. This can include drawing out any key insights, observations, or themes, helping to bring a sense of clarity and continuity to our work. While sessions have a general structure, this can remain flexible depending on what you need from each session.
My first session
In advance of your first session we will have a no-fee, 15 minute telephone consultation to decide whether we feel like a good fit. If we decide to work together we will agree a date and time for our first session.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet and begin to develop a trusted therapeutic relationship.
During this session, I will ask a range of questions to help me understand you and your situation more fully. This may include exploring your current concerns, your lifestyle, important relationships, and your general health and wellbeing. You are always free to share as much or as little as feels comfortable, and we will go at a pace that feels right for you.
We will also go through a working agreement (or contract), which outlines how we will work together, including confidentiality and practical arrangements. As part of this process, we may begin to think about your goals for therapy and what you would like to gain from our work, as well as how we might approach this together.
Throughout, there will be space for you to ask questions you may have about me, the way I work, or the therapy process.
Above all, this first session is about getting to know one another.
The first session is 60 minutes and at the usual fee.
