About me and my therapy practice

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck or quietly struggling to cope? Perhaps you're managing on the outside while inside feeling tired, disconnected, uncertain, or alone. Do you have a sense that something isn't right.

I offer a calm, supportive space where you can slow things down, feel understood, and explore what's going on for you at your own pace.

I'm Viki, a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor offering a warm, person-centred and relational approach. I work collaboratively with you, paying close attention to what it feels like to be in relationship and  creating a non-judgmental space where you can be yourself.

Therapy is a partnership. We'll work together at your pace to explore what you need - whether that is navigating a difficult period, understanding recurring patterns, or gaining deeper insights into yourself. I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Practice description

I have experience of working with a broad range of issues such as low self esteem, relationship problems and breakdown, burnout, anxiety and age related life changes.

I also have a particular interest in working with people who experience separation, distance, or a sense of not fully belonging - whether through relationships, family circumstances, life transitions or other forms of loss and change. These experiences can bring feelings such as grief, shame, loneliness or disconnection, which are not always easy to talk about.

Before training as a counsellor, I completed a PhD in Social Anthropology at Durham University. This background has shaped how I understand emotional experience, identity and belonging, and I bring this sensitivity into my counselling work.

I also have an interest in how place and environment affect wellbeing - feelings of loss, displacement, or longing for somewhere that feels like home. These themes may come into our work if they are relevant to you.

Whatever brings you to therapy, I aim to offer a relationship that helps you feel more connected to yourself and more able to move forward in a way that feels right for you.

My first session

Finding a counsellor who you feel at ease with really does matter. In my experience, it's not just helpful - it's fundamental. Much of what makes therapy effective comes from the connection you build with your counsellor, rather than any specific method or approach. With that in mind, I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation so we can begin to get a sense of each other and I can answer any questions you might have.

If you choose to go ahead, our first session is a gentle introduction to working together. I'll explain how counselling works and talk through our agreement, making sure everything feels clear and comfortable for you. I'll ask a few simple questions to understand a little about your background and what's been going on for you. From there, you're invited to share whatever feels important - what's brought you to counselling and what you hope to gain from it.

There's no pressure to have everything figured out, and it's completely okay if you're unsure where to begin. The focus of that first meeting is simply to start building a sense of trust and connection between us. My aim is to offer a space that feels safe enough for you to talk about what's on your mind, even if it feels difficult. I understand that trust develops over time, and I hope that this first session helps you feel more comfortable about how we might work together.
