About me and my therapy practice
My name is Lorna (she/they) and I’m a Person Centred counsellor based in Gloucestershire. I am diagnosed Autistic and (combined) ADHD and I am also poly, Queer, perimenopausal and increasingly witchy (these things are almost certainly all linked).
I offer remote (phone/video) and face to face sessions in Gloucester and Stroud, specialising in working with neurodivergent people and GSRD (Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity). I also have experience working with identity disorders.
As non-normative individuals, people can assume that our struggles are linked to the to the ways in which we are different. I understand first hand that, whilst that is sometimes true, it's far from always being the case.
Whether you are struggling with your identity, or looking for somebody who won't pigeon hole you because of it, I would love to help 🙂
I offer a neuro-affirming, sex- and kink-positive and anti-oppressive practice, which means that you are free to bring everything you are, allowing us to work together with our full selves on whatever is troubling you at the moment.
Practice description
My work is Person Centred, which means that I will work alongside you as you seek to better understand yourself and why you may be finding things difficult at the moment. The aim of this model of therapy is to discover the ways in which we have adapted to make other people (and ourselves) more comfortable. By reducing the gap between who we truly are and who we have trained ourselves to be, we can find a way forward.
I am also working out how to use tarot as a therapeutic tool, so if that's of interest, let me know 🙂
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute consultation (either remote or face to face) which is your opportunity to establish whether I am a good fit for what you are looking for in a counsellor.
In our first full-length (50 minute) session, I will gather some information (contact details, relevant medical/therapeutic history that you are comfortable sharing) and we will do some admin and "contracting" (talking about things like confidentiality and making sure you're ok with my terms of engagement and privacy policy). Once that's done, I will ask you what has brought you to counselling and what kind of things you might want to talk about.
It is up to you what you talk about. You might want to get stuff off your chest that has annoyed you that morning, or you might want to talk about something that’s been making you sad or unsettled for a long time. We may talk about the same thing for a few weeks, or it might be different every week. The topic of conversation is always in your control and there will never be any pressure to talk about something you don’t want to talk about, or indeed talk at all, if silence feels like the thing you need in a given moment.
