About me and my therapy practice

Machair (Mah-kur) Therapeutics is a small business based in Glasgow, Scotland and owned by Ruth Lamb.

We offer person centred psychotherapy in-person and online to support you with stress, anxiety, burnout and relationship difficulties.

I’m Ruth, a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and facilitator based in Glasgow. My work is integrative and creative — I don't think there is a single “right” way to "do" therapy, and together we’ll find what truly supports you. I offer talking therapy, body-based sessions informed by my yoga training, and Reiki for those who wish to work with energy-based healing.

Resilience often feels messy and overwhelming. In therapy with me, you’ll have a safe place to understand your experiences, build tolerance for difficult emotions, and begin shifting patterns that feel stuck. If you’re looking to reconnect with meaning, strengthen your sense of self, and move towards a more authentic life, I’m here to support you.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent over 10 years in the humanitarian sector, supporting people through significant life challenges. This experience deepened my belief in the power of communication—both with ourselves and the world around us—as a key to wellbeing.

I am also the co-founder of Change Collective, an organisation that works to create and facilitate wellbeing opportunites for people who are marginalised. I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Strathclyde, a certificate in COSCA counselling skills and certificates from the Institute of Counselling in Therapeutic Counselling and Grief and Bereavement Counselling. I am a certified yoga teacher with over 10 years of experience, offering bespoke classes and projects with Change Collective and Machair Therapeutics. Alongside my therapy practice, I work part-time for Rape Crisis Scotland, providing therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence in Scotland.

Practice description

We specialise in finding a tailored path for each person to navigate what is challenging for them. No judgement, no fuss. A relaxed space to explore what is going on, in your life.

We provide one-on-one and group counselling sessions that create a space to explore the stories, patterns and experiences that shape your world. Together we can talk through what you're carrying and what is ready to be released.

We offer body-based practices grounded in yoga that support you to connect with yourself and rest your nervous system. Our approach is trauma sensitive and accessible for all. A way to root deeply and restore from within.

Therapy can be thought of like the machair—a place where growth becomes possible, even after periods of difficulty or change. Together, we create the conditions for insight, healing, and movement forward, at a pace that feels steady and manageable for you. My approach is collaborative and flexible, shaped around your individual needs.

Machair Therapeutics is rooted in the Person-Centred approach of Carl Rogers, based on empathy, respect, and unconditional positive regard. When someone feels truly listened to and accepted, change often emerges in its own time.

My first session

I offer a free 20 minute introductory call before we book in a first session together.

There is 2 bits of paperwork that I ask you to fill out (1) a Client Agreement that outlines things like price, cancellation and contact policies and (2) an Intake Form which asks you to write a bit about why you have came to therapy.

We will arrange to meet at a time and place that works best for you. Concession costs available for people who need some financial support or those who want to book in a block of sessions. Please speak with me to discuss.

About me and my therapy practice

At Machair Therapeutics, I offer psychotherapy and body-based practices that will support your mental and emotional well being.

Through talk-based psychotherapy and body-based practices I can help you feel better, more able to trust yourself and the world around you.

It can be difficult to have a healthy relationship with ourselves never mind other people in our lives. My services offer space for a re-gathering of yourself, your wants and your needs so you can find ground in the changing tides of life.

Sessions are offered in-person, online and outside. They usually last either 60 or 90 mins.

I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with themselves, heal from past wounds, and gain a deeper understanding of how their experiences shape their world. My background in activism and community work has given me unique insight into how personal wellbeing is tied to both individual experiences and broader social issues.

Practice description

Person-Centred Therapy has been deeply transformative for me. It’s helped me gain a better understanding of myself and supported my own healing journey. That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others do the same—providing the space and support for people to take control of their healing, at their own pace and in their own way. I’m also committed to advocating for human, social, and political rights, believing that real wellbeing comes from both inner healing and creating a more supportive, just world. My approach is always holistic, recognizing that mind, body, and spirit are all connected in the process of healing.

I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Strathclyde, a certificate in COSCA counselling skills and certificates from the Institute of Counselling in Therapeutic Counselling and Grief and Bereavement Counselling. Alongside my therapy practice, I work part-time for Rape Crisis Scotland, providing therapeutic support to survivors of sexual violence in Scotland.

In our work together, I can create space for insight, healing, and change to emerge at your own pace. I believe there is no single way to “do” therapy. Each person is different, and my approach is collaborative, creative, and led by what feels right for you.

Machair Therapeutics is rooted in the work of Carl Rogers and the Person-Centred approach, which is based on acceptance, respect, honest communication, and unconditional positive regard. When someone feels truly heard and valued, change can happen naturally.

I am a trained yoga teacher, and these two practices deeply inform one another. Yoga has taught me the importance of listening to the body, working with the nervous system, and understanding healing as something that happens over time, with patience and love.

My first session

Before booking your first session, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This is a chance for us to connect, talk about what has brought you here, and explore what kind of support you are looking for. It also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions about how I work and to get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit.

Your first full session is a gentle space to begin wherever you are. We will talk about what is happening in your life, what you would like support with, and any hopes or intentions you may have for therapy. There is no pressure to share everything at once or to have the “right” words. We move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Depending on your needs, sessions may include talk-based therapy, body-based awareness practices, or simply creating space to pause, reflect, and be heard. My aim is to offer a supportive, grounded environment where you can begin to feel safe, understood, and more connected to yourself.
