About me and my therapy practice
I’m Chris, a person-centred counsellor based in Tonbridge, Kent.
People often come to me when life just feels too much, and they don't know which way to turn. Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, low or anxious can be a lonely and frightening place to be, but it needn't be that way.
I offer support, compassion and a space to be heard and explore what's going on for you. Clients often share with me how valuable it is to be able to share how they feel with someone away from their circle of friends and family. Someone who will really listen, without judgement, who has helped them feel less alone with their challenges
I work with adults, either on an open-ended basis or shorter term, for more specific, solution focussed work.
I am passionate about my work and offer a space which is trusting, respectful and collaborative, where you can move towards a place where things make sense, where there’s a way forward, and you feel in charge of your life.
I use a comfortable, private room in a clinic in North Tonbridge, just off the Hadlow road, with easy free parking on-site. Alternatively we can meet over video call, if you would prefer to be in the comfort of your own home.
Practice description
I am trained in a person-centred approach which emphasises our own capacity for personal growth and healing, focusing on creating an environment where we feel safe to explore our feelings and experiences, helping us to move towards positive change and self-acceptance.
I hold the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and in addition to my therapy practice in Tonbridge I work in a local cancer support charity and at Mid-Kent Mind. I am actively involved in addiction recovery groups.
I have lived and have professional experience in a wide variety of areas, including:
addiction
anxiety
burnout
bereavement and loss
family issues
chronic illness
identity
life stages and transitions
loneliness
low self esteem
relationship issues
stress and work related issues
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and am bound by their ethical framework, which includes attending regular supervision and ongoing professional and personal development.
I hold an enhanced DBS check and am fully insured.
My first session
Our first contact will be an initial telephone or email exchange where we can arrange an online consultation that will last up to 45 minutes. There is no charge for this call.
During this time, we will get a sense of one another; you can tell me about yourself and why you’re seeking therapy. You can also ask any questions you may have about the therapy process.
I will make some written notes during this session, but this will be the only time I make notes during our sessions.
If, at the end of this meeting, you’d like to proceed with further sessions, we will talk about whether in-person or online meetings are best for you, and then agree the day, time, and cost.
