About me and my therapy practice
I work from the position that therapy, like life, is all about relationships.
I have that wanting better relationships often brings people to the therapy chair, whether that's to explore existing relationships, to work on the relationships they want to build, or to improve the relationship they have with themselves.
So I work relationally: that means we will use our relationship as therapist and client to understand what is happening for you outside the room, and how to shift what might not be working. That may be showing up as symptoms of anxiety, depression or countless other issues, and we can explore and address them together.
I trained as an integrative counsellor, which means I am qualified in three different approaches (person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapy, more information here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/integrative-counselling/).
What that practically means for us in the room is that there are lots of different ways that we can work, by blending methods to suit your unique needs. My practice is always LGBTQ+ inclusive and neurodivergent-friendly.
Perhaps you want to dig into the past and explore your relationships there and how they might be affecting things happening now. Perhaps you'd rather work in the present, looking at your thoughts and behaviour and how these can change.
However we decide to work, I can offer you a dedicated space where you will be really listened to and understood, as you share and explore your life.
Practice description
I offer short and long-term work, always in a compassionate, non-judgmental and safe environment. You don’t need to be certain about whether you’d like short- or long-term work before we begin, as we can discuss it in the first session.
The short-term approach (usually between six to 12 sessions) is most useful for exploring a particular issue or goal, or for getting a taste of what therapy is like, with the possibility of longer therapeutic work further down the line.
The long-term approach is usually open-ended, so our work together can be of any length that you need, and we can talk about your progress as we go, considering together when the time is right to end.
I offer sessions face to face, online, on the phone, or a combination of these, so you can choose whatever works best for you.
I also offer a free 15-minute video or phone consultation so I can get a sense of what's happening in your life right now and what you'd like to achieve in therapy, and you can get a sense of whether I might be someone you'd like to form that really important therapeutic relationship with.
