About me and my therapy practice

Have you ever felt disconnected from the rest of the world? Perhaps something happened years ago and part of you never really moved on. Or perhaps your mind works differently. You notice patterns, inconsistencies and loose ends. One idea quickly becomes ten.

Over time, many people learn to adapt. They mask. They keep up. They become skilled at appearing fine. Yet beneath the surface they may feel exhausted, misunderstood or unsure of who they really are.

I work with adults who want to better understand themselves and rebuild confidence in their own judgement. Many have spent years second-guessing themselves, carrying emotional burdens in silence, or feeling as though they are constantly one step behind everyone else. Others are recovering from difficult experiences that continue to shape the present.

My practice is neuro-affirming and welcoming of different ways of thinking, processing and communicating. You do not need to explain or justify your differences here. Whether you are autistic, ADHD, exploring your identity, or simply feel that the world never quite came with an instruction manual, we can work together to make sense of your experience.

Counselling cannot change the past, but it can change your relationship with it. My aim is to help you understand what has shaped you, recognise your strengths, and develop greater confidence in navigating life's challenges. Rather than feeling overwhelmed by every storm, you can learn to trust your own ability to find a way through.

Practice description

Do you have difficulty putting your problems into words and feel "sorted it out by now". You may have spent years carrying a difficult experience, adapting to fit in, or trying to keep up with expectations that never felt quite right.

I’m a neuro-affirming counsellor specialising in self-confidence and drawing on Focusing and Yoga.

Many of the people I work with are used to analysing problems in their heads. Sometimes that is helpful, but it can also leave us going round in circles. Alongside talking, I use approaches that encourages you to pay attention to the subtle signals coming from your body. Often there is a sense of knowing that exists before we have found the right words for it.

I combine ideas from yoga and emotional regulation approaches. This is not about forcing positivity or controlling emotions. It is about helping you develop a steadier relationship with your thoughts, feelings and reactions so that they become easier to navigate.

You can expect clear explanations, curiosity rather than judgment, and space to think at your own pace. Some people arrive wanting practical tools. Others simply need somewhere to untangle years of thoughts and experiences. We will find a way of working that suits you.

Above all, I aim to create an environment where you can stop performing, stop trying to get it right, and begin understanding yourself more fully.

My first session

our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and decide whether working together feels right. There is no expectation to arrive with a perfectly organised story or a clear explanation of what is wrong. Many people don't know where to begin, and that is completely okay.

We'll start by going through the counselling agreement. While this may sound formal, its purpose is simple: to make sure we're both working from the same page and clear about what to expect. Taking the time to do this helps create a solid foundation for our work together.

There is usually time to begin exploring what has brought you to counselling and what you hope might be different as a result. Some people have a specific issue they want to address. Others simply know something isn't working but struggle to put it into words.

You'll also have the opportunity to tell me about any preferences, adjustments or support needs that would help you get the most from counselling, including anything related to neurodiversity, communication, sensory needs or structure. There is no "right" way to be in counselling, and I welcome conversations about what works best for you.

The pace of the session will be guided by you. If you need time to think, that's fine. If you prefer structure, I can provide it. If your thoughts move between topics, we can work with that too.

By the end of the session, my hope is that you'll have a clearer sense of how I work, whether you feel comfortable with me, and what future sessions might look like. Most importantly, I want you to leave feeling heard, respected and under no pressure to be anyone other than yourself.
