Availability

I work in-person at various locations within North and East London, a well as online or via telephone.

Currently, I have availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I work between 10am and 9pm, but please get in touch to find out more about specific availability or to book an initial phone call with me.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I'm Kawita. Maybe you don't know exactly what you're looking for from counselling or why you're feeling misunderstood, confused, isolated, or even that something just isn't right. Or, maybe you do have something specific that's been bothering you. No matter your situation, as a psychodynamic counsellor I will work together with you to really understand the depth and meaning of what's going on for you specifically.

I like to create a warm, curious, and empathetic environment where we can work at your pace to safely explore and challenge some of your thoughts, feelings, and patterns you might fall into. Often these patterns relate to our past experiences which, although we've moved on in some ways, still exist as echoes in our current experiences. By becoming aware of and working with these echoes we can develop insight and more self-compassion to help you heal and move forward.

Having worked abroad, and as a counsellor within NHS and charity settings in addition to private practice, I have met and worked with a wide range people from all walks of life including with people from a variety of cultures, sexualities, and with different forms of neurodiversity (most frequently including Autism and ADHD). 

Practice description

Although my work is primarily based on psychodynamic/psychoanalytic ideas, through working in different settings and extra studies I draw from other therapy traditions such and Jungian, existential, integrative, and creative therapies, and as such I like to work flexibly and with an open mind rather than being dogmatic in my thinking.

My first session

Once you've contacted me, I will arrange a 15-20 minute phone call. Here, we can start to talk through what's brought you to counselling and also get a feel for how we might work together. I welcome any questions you might have about how I work or about psychodynamic therapy more generally.

After this, in our first session we can talk in more detail about your reasons for coming to therapy and how your present and past experiences may be affecting you so that I can better understand and how I can best be of help to you.

Most importantly, I encourage you to consider throughout this process whether you feel comfortable and safe with me, as I believe this is one of the most important things for you and our work together.
