About me and my therapy practice

My name is Vikki and I am the counsellor behind Make Yourself Counselling.

I bring over 30 years of frontline experience as a family practitioner in a safeguarding role alongside my current role as a mental health recovery worker for NHS commissioned charities. This means that my empathy is backed up by robust understanding of complex trauma and the mental health system.

My path to becoming a counsellor wasn't just academic it was deeply personal, after navigating the complexities of domestically abusive relationship's I sought support from a counsellor who didn't just listen- she helped me to transform. Through that process I unpicked my own patterns, rediscovered my voice, and finally, was able to step into my authentic self. I learnt that counselling doesn't just help, it changes lives.

I knew that one day I wanted to do the same and help women who felt stuck like me to find their own path  to lasting change.

My practice is rooted in feminist principles. We live in a world that often tells women and girls to be smaller, quieter or more accommodating. My goal is to help you to challenge those narratives. Whether you are recovering from trauma, feeling lost in your role's or struggling with the expectation's placed upon you, I offer a collaborative non-judgemental space

I can help you with relationship difficulties both personally and professionally, bullying, boundary setting, self esteem issues, and working through difficulties related to childhood and upbringing.

I believe that it’s never too late to be who you want to be and that every woman deserves to achieve her full potential and to reach an understanding of herself on a truly deep and intimate level.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in please get in touch.

I offer free 15 minute introductory chats.

Practice description

I offer humanistic/integrative counselling. As a counsellor my role is to provide a regular space and time for you to explore anything that you are struggling with or that is worrying you.

I am person centred. This means that the sessions are completely led by you and your needs. I facilitate you to think deeply about your issues using the key person centred skills of empathy, non-judgement and genuineness.

You already have everything you need inside of you to achieve your full potential. You are the expert on your own life. You decide the pace of the therapy and  you set the agenda.

I use skills such as reflective listening and open ended questioning to enable you to explore your own thoughts and feelings more deeply.

Working together, we will empower you to develop your self awareness and find solutions to your own problems.

Whether we meet face to face or via a secure online platform the focus remains the same, your growth, your pace and your autonomy.

Reaching out is often the hardest part of the journey. If you're feeling hesitant, please know that there is no "right way" to start. you don't need to have all the answers or even an clear list of your goals yet.

My first session

I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation to see if I am a good fit for you. Please fill out my contact sheet or drop me an email to arrange a call at a mutually convenient time.

You can send me a message that just says "I'm interested in learning more about your support for women".

From there we can schedule a brief, no pressure introductory call to discuss what you need and to see if we are the right fit for one another.

If we agree that we can work together I have some paperwork that I will email out to you. The paperwork explains more about how I work, data protection, safeguarding and a contact sheet, I also explain how I take payment for each session.

Please Note: I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours unless over a weekend or a bank holiday.

My working hours are 9-6.30pm Mon-Fri.
