About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor offering therapy to adults from diverse backgrounds. I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, trauma, loss and life transitions.

A significant part of my work involves supporting clients who have experienced abuse, including childhood sexual abuse. I offer a sensitive, trauma-aware space where painful experiences can be explored safely and at your own pace.

My integrative approach allows me to draw on a range of therapeutic modalities to meet your individual needs. This offers flexibility to explore both past experiences and present-day challenges, combining empathy and reflection with practical strategies that support coping and meaningful change.

Before training as a counsellor, I spent over 20 years in the corporate sector managing international client relationships and cross-border projects. This brings valuable insight into workplace pressures, leadership challenges and the emotional impact of high-demand professional environments. It enables me to support clients experiencing stress, burnout, conflict at work, leadership challenges and career transitions.

I am currently completing a Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching at Henley Business School, further deepening my understanding of leadership, workplace dynamics and personal development. Integrating counselling and coaching allows me to accompany clients throughout their journey—from healing past wounds to realising their potential and achieving future goals.

Practice description

My practice offers a warm, inclusive and confidential space for exploration, reflection and personal growth.

I provide trauma-aware, relational counselling tailored to your needs and at a pace that feels safe for you. Whether you are seeking support with emotional wellbeing, relationship patterns, workplace stress, or life transitions, my focus is to help you feel heard, valued and supported.

Below is an example of what is like working with me from a client's perspective:

"Yan's warmth and humanity provides a safe and accepting environment in which I feel able to open up and expose the maelstrom of emotions that I had buried and her rigorous analytical approach puts those feelings into context and perspective. At the heart of our relationship is an honesty that she enables. Our sessions always leave me feeling lighter: from having shared my experiences; from feeling heard and acknowledged, from being understood or, when things have been complex, from knowing that she is working with me to untangle everything. She gives me confidence in the future."

Drawing on my background in both counselling and coaching, I work collaboratively to help you build understanding, develop coping strategies and move towards meaningful and sustainable change. My aim is to support you in strengthening resilience, improving relationships, and creating greater clarity and balance in your life and work.

About me and my therapy practice

Having spent over 20 years working in the corporate world, I understand the pressures that can come with responsibility, leadership and high expectations. I now work as an Integrative Counsellor supporting professionals who are navigating stress, burnout, relationship difficulties or significant life and career transitions.

I work with a wide range of issues including anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, trauma, loss and major life changes. Many of the professionals I support are highly capable individuals who may appear successful externally while privately struggling with pressure, responsibility, self-doubt or the impact of past experiences. Many are also used to supporting others and managing significant responsibility, yet may have few spaces where they can speak openly about their own struggles without needing to appear strong or in control.

A significant part of my work involves supporting clients who have experienced abuse, including childhood sexual abuse. I offer a sensitive, trauma-informed environment where difficult experiences can be explored safely and at a pace that feels manageable.

My integrative approach allows me to draw on a range of therapeutic models depending on your individual needs. Together we can explore how past experiences may influence present patterns, while also developing practical ways to strengthen resilience, deepen self-awareness and support meaningful, sustainable change.

I am currently completing a Professional Certificate in Executive Coaching at Henley Business School. Integrating counselling and coaching allows me to support clients in a holistic way — whether they are processing difficult experiences, navigating professional challenges, or seeking greater clarity, balance and direction in their lives and careers.

Practice description

My practice offers a warm, inclusive and confidential space for exploration, reflection and personal growth.

I provide trauma-aware, relational counselling tailored to your individual needs and at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you. Whether you are seeking support with emotional wellbeing, relationship patterns, workplace stress or life transitions, my focus is on helping you feel heard, valued and understood.

My work offers a reflective space for thoughtful exploration, supporting clients who are interested not only in managing immediate difficulties but also in developing deeper self-understanding and meaningful long-term change.

Below is an example of what working with me can feel like, shared from a client’s perspective:

“Yan’s warmth and humanity create a safe and accepting environment in which I feel able to open up and express the maelstrom of emotions I had buried. Her thoughtful and rigorous approach helps me place those feelings into context and perspective. At the heart of our work is an honesty that she enables. Our sessions always leave me feeling lighter — from having shared my experiences, from feeling heard and acknowledged, from being understood, or, when things feel complex, from knowing that she is working alongside me to untangle everything. She gives me confidence in the future.”

Drawing on my background in both counselling and coaching, I work collaboratively with you to deepen understanding, develop effective coping strategies, and support meaningful and sustainable change. My aim is to help you strengthen resilience, improve relationships, and develop greater clarity and balance in both your personal life and professional role.

My first session

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, so I aim to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

I offer a free first session which is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to talk about what has brought you to counselling. We will explore what you hope to gain from therapy and discuss how we might work together. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel ready to — there’s no pressure or expectation.

This initial meeting also gives you a chance to experience my way of working and decide whether you feel comfortable with me as your counsellor. I believe that a good therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective counselling, so it’s important that you feel safe, heard and respected.

Practical aspects such as confidentiality, session frequency and fees will also be discussed. By the end of the first session, we can agree on the best way forward — whether that’s continuing for a few sessions or working together longer-term.

I offer in person and online sessions.  I’m happy to answer any questions before we start so that you can feel confident and supported from the beginning.

Availability

I currently have various availability from Monday to Friday, offering daytime and evening sessions both online and in person at my practices in Kingston, Wimbledon and Surbiton. I also have a limited number of Saturday appointments available—please enquire for details.

About me and my therapy practice

I work with adults, primarily professionals and people in roles of responsibility, who may appear to be coping well on the outside but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally stuck on the inside. Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable individuals who are used to managing pressure, supporting others, and pushing through difficulties — until this way of living begins to feel unsustainable.

Clients often come to counselling because of burnout, anxiety, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, identity questions, or a sense of disconnection or loss of meaning. Some are facing specific life transitions, while others have a general feeling that something isn’t quite right and want space to explore this more deeply.

I offer a calm, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you don’t have to perform or hold everything together. Counselling provides an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and make sense of your emotional experience at your own pace.

Practice description

My approach is integrative and client-led, shaped by the belief that each person’s experience is unique. Rather than offering quick solutions, I work collaboratively with you to understand what is happening beneath the surface — emotionally, relationally, and internally — so that meaningful and sustainable change can develop.

I aim to create a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, respectful, and containing. Together, we may explore current difficulties as well as longer-standing patterns where this feels helpful. Clients often tell me they value having space to think clearly, feel understood, and develop greater emotional awareness, particularly if they are used to being the one others rely on.

What you can expect from counselling

In our sessions, you can expect to be met with warmth, curiosity, and respect. We will work at a pace that feels right for you, with attention to both your immediate concerns and your wider emotional wellbeing.

Counselling may help you to:

gain greater clarity about your thoughts and feelings

reduce internal pressure and emotional overwhelm

develop a stronger sense of balance and self-understanding

reconnect with what matters to you personally and professionally

My first session

I offer a free 30-minute introductory call, which gives you the opportunity to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. Sessions are offered online and in person, and I am currently accepting new clients.

If you are considering counselling but unsure where to begin, you are welcome to get in touch — there is no obligation.
