About me and my therapy practice

Too much going on in your head?

Coping on the outside but struggling underneath?

Or maybe you can't quite explain what's wrong... you just know something isn’t right.

...but you're here now...

Let's be honest. Choosing a therapist from a directory is a bit of an odd thing to do. You're expected to make a decision about someone you've never met based on a photo and a few paragraphs of text. So maybe, rather than me telling you I'm warm, empathic and non-judgemental (I'd hope we all are) I'd rather just offer you a little sense of what it might actually be like to work with me.

You don't need to have the right words. Maybe you know exactly why you're looking for help, or maybe you don't. You might have a clear story to tell, or simply a feeling that something isn't right and you need some help making sense of it. Either is fine. You can arrive exactly as you are, and we'll work it out together.

And you don't need to worry about saying the wrong thing. There really isn't any such thing. In fact, the things which feel awkward, uncomfortable or difficult to say can often turn out to be the things most worth talking about.

There isn't a formula, because you're not a "typical client". You are you.

And what if, when we meet… we just don't ‘click’?

Well, this all works best when the relationship feels right, and it's almost impossible to know that from a photograph and a few lines of text. What's important is that you find someone you can work with… and that might not be me, which is fine.  That's one of the reasons your first session with me is free.

If you've read this far, you've probably already got some sense of whether you could imagine talking to me, so rather than asking you to read another few hundred words about me, why not send me a message or give me a call? Ask the questions that actually matter to you. They can be simple, practical, awkward, light-hearted, complicated or deeply personal. Just ask.

...if you really want to know all the technical bits, read on...

Practice description

I'm a fully qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist with a First-Class Bachelor's Degree with Honours. Okay… heads up… a technical nonsense warning… my core modality is Clarkson's Five Relationship model, and my work draws on psychodynamic, Gestalt and person-centred theory, among other approaches. Back in plain English, that means I don't try to fit every person into one particular style of therapy. I work differently with different people, depending on who you are, what you bring and what seems most useful to us as we work together.

But whatever theory sits behind what we do, the relationship between us remains at the heart of the work: two people meeting together, trying to make sense of whatever has brought you here.

I have my own private space for face-to-face sessions but can also meet online if that works better for you. If you would prefer to meet face-to-face but are unable to come to me, I'm happy to discuss meeting in your own home if you live within a reasonable travelling distance of Ash Vale, including broadly Farnham, Fleet, Camberley, Farnborough, Aldershot and parts of Guildford, Godalming and Woking.

What you tell me is treated confidentially, within the usual professional and legal limits that apply to counselling and psychotherapy.

I tend to work longer-term, although we'll review things together as we go.

Sessions: £65

Duration: 60 minutes

First session: 60 minutes, free, with no obligation to continue

Where: Face-to-face, online, or in your own home

Scheduling: Regular appointments or flexible week-to-week booking

Cancellation: No charge with at least one day's notice

If your work, childcare, shifts or life in general make a fixed weekly appointment difficult, that's fine... we can arrange sessions more flexibly.

Cancelling occasional session is fine – stuff happens, right? But repeatedly missing sessions can make meaningful work difficult, so if attendance becomes a problem, we'll simply talk about it and review what you need.

My first session

Your first 60 minute session is free.  Not a twenty-minute assessment or a half-hour introductory consultation, but a full hour together, for free, with no obligation to continue afterwards. By then, you'll have a much better sense of who I am and how I work, and we'll both have a clearer idea of whether we're the right fit for one another, and that's the most important to find - someone you can feel comfortable with.

Before your first session, we'll have a brief phone conversation so I can get a sense of what you're looking for and whether I think I might be able to help.
