About me and my therapy practice

Hi. My name is Katherine (or Kat). I have over twenty years of working with young people in a number of different settings, predominantly around their mental health and wellbeing.

I am now a qualified adolescent counsellor and registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) (MBACPReg.), adhering to their code of ethics.

My trauma informed practice fosters an integrative approach, tailored to meet the needs of the young person I am supporting. For some young people, sitting and talking can be too much. Therefore, I offer a more creative approach, for example, utilising the arts and nature, to meet the need of the young person and create emotional and physical safety, in a safe space.

Practice description

I support young people, aged 12 and 25, to navigate and grow through life's challenges, such as anxiety, low mood, friendship or family difficulties, loss, low self-esteem, and the pressures of school or growing up.

Coming to counselling can feel daunting, especially if it’s hard to talk about what’s going on. I offer a calm, supportive space where young people can be themselves, feel heard, and explore their thoughts, feelings and emotions at their own pace, and in their own way.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and age-appropriate, adapting sessions to suit each young person’s needs. Sessions might involve talking, creative methods, or practical strategies to help manage difficult emotions.

Confidentiality is priority, and I always ensure young people understand what this means for them, including when information may need to be shared to keep a them safe.

If you’re a parent or carer considering counselling for your young person, or a young person thinking about starting therapy, you’re welcome to get in touch to ask questions or arrange an initial conversation.
