About me and my therapy practice

In our lives we can all go through times that can seem overwhelming or difficult to cope with. If you're reading this you may feel this is where you're at now, or have been for a while. You may just be curious about therapy and wanting to understand yourself better. Choosing the right therapist can seem daunting. Let me tell you a bit about myself and my approach to hopefully make the process a bit clearer.

There are many reasons people why seek counselling. You may be anxious, stressed or overwhelmed by life events. You may have experienced a loss that you're struggling to understand or cope with. You may be stuck in patterns you are finding difficult to change, or struggling to set healthy boundaries in your life. You may be experiencing feelings of shame.

I understand how hard it can be to reach out for help and talk about difficult and confusing feelings. That is why I offer a space that is trusting, non-judgemental and safe. One where you can feel heard, understood and accepted. My approach is person-centred integrative. This simply means that I see you as the expert in your life and growth. My role is helping to create the environment where that growth can happen. My experience has taught me that when it does it can bring clarity where there was confusion, choice where there was a feeling of being stuck and 'flow' where there was a sense of 'stuckness'.

Practice description

I see the counselling relationship as a collaborative one. Not one where I am here to 'fix you' but one where I get to know the real you. Supporting you to explore whatever has brought you counselling. This your space and we can bring in other approaches if it feel right for you. The choice is always yours.

I have a special interest and experience in helping people who have experienced loss in any of its forms. This may mean bereavement, loss of role or identity or any life event beyond your control.

I also have an interest and experience in helping people who are struggling with substance or behavioral addictions. Also those who have been impacted by the addiction of others.

The number of sessions I offer is open ended. This means the therapy can go on for as long or as short as you feel you need it. Some people find they only need a few sessions, whilst others feel they need to stay with it for a longer period. Again the choice is yours. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation. Here we can discuss what has brought you to counselling and whether you feel I am the right counsellor for you. It gives us an opportunity to see what it might look like for us to work together.
