About me and my therapy practice
Looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health, however many people still struggle to reach out for help. They may feel they should be able to cope or worry about being judged or misunderstood. Some may find it hard to trust or open up or some simply have become so used to putting others first that they ignore their own needs.
My background in mental health has given me a deep knowledge and understanding of the complex and varied challenges people experience. I understand the importance of patience, empathy and meeting people exactly where they are. I have supported people in crisis as well as those navigating long-term struggles.
I am passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves. I have a deep respect for your individuality and your capacity for growth. I believe every person has the inner resources to understand themselves and make positive changes. In counselling I help people build self-acceptance and to trust their own feelings and judgements.
Through compassionate, non-judgemental listening you will feel heard, respected and valued - just as you are. You do not have to have everything figured out. I am here to meet you where you are and walk alongside you so we can shape the path together.
Practice description
I am qualified in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy. This means I believe that no single approach works for everyone. Every person is unique and so is the path that is right for them. In essence, different things work for different people.
Together we will explore what matters to you and draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to find what best meets your needs, values and goals. I will invite your feedback throughout, so together we can shape the process in a way that feels supportive and meaningful.
One of the most empowering goals of counselling is to help you understand yourself better. This means helping you to develop the self-knowledge and skills needed to support yourself outside of sessions. Whether you are exploring difficult emotions, need space to reflect or to develop coping strategies, counselling can help you reconnect with yourself, find clarity and bring balance back to your life.
I am qualified to work with adults. If you are interested and thinking about booking then I warmly invite you to get in touch. I am happy to offer a free, short introductory call. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to discuss details such as frequency, duration and cost. If you decide you would like to try counselling, we would book our first session together.
I am based in Elgin, Moray for in-person sessions. I also offer online sessions.
My first session
Starting counselling can feel daunting, especially if you are unsure what will happen. Many people arrive feeling nervous, uncertain, or simply exhausted. All of which is completely okay.
Our first session is a chance for us to get to know one another. There is no pressure to share everything straight away and no right or wrong way to be. We will go at your own pace.
I will begin by explaining how counselling works, including confidentiality and boundaries, so you know exactly what to expect. I may ask some questions to understand what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping for, but you are always in control of what you choose to share.
Most importantly, the first session is about creating a safe, supportive space where you can begin to feel heard and understood.
Counselling is your time. Whether you want to talk, reflect quietly or simply sit with your feelings, you are welcome just as you are.
By the end of the session, we can talk about next steps and whether continuing to work together feels right for you.
