About me and my therapy practice

I aim to support my clients in exploring their full potential in life. In doing so, I work with many forms of suffering.

The issues I work with

People come to therapy for many reasons. Sometimes it’s an acute issue: anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and so on. Other times, suffering is more a feeling that something’s not right: life feels hard, or you don’t feel like you’re really living, or you’re caught in old patterns.

My guiding philosophy

I believe that humans have an inbuilt capability for healing. If obstacles are removed, we are free to grow into mature, fully realized adults – just as an acorn will naturally develop into an oak tree. My role as your therapist isn’t to “fix” you – it’s to help you identify blocks and patterns in your way, unlocking your own natural potential.

My background

I’ve worked with people from all walks of life. For many years, I was an advisor to senior leaders in business. I’ve worked with young offenders coming out of prison, people experiencing homelessness, and those struggling with addiction. I’ve sat in the client’s chair for hundreds of hours of my own personal therapy, and so I know how these conversations can help us make sense of life, with all its joys and sorrows.

Training

I am trained in an integration of different therapy approaches, which means I can adapt to each client’s needs as the therapy unfolds. The approaches I may work with include psychoanalytic (focusing on childhood development and early trauma), humanistic (looking at present experiences, beliefs and aspirations) and transpersonal (perhaps working with story, archetypes and dreams). I am also a qualified yoga teacher and may take a somatic perspective on our work together, looking at how trauma can be stored in the body.

How I work

We all have a deep need to be understood, to feel that another human gets it, and so I offer my clients an accepting, non-judgmental presence, so that together we can safely explore whatever difficulties are present.

Practice description

An inclusive space

I’ve worked with people who identify as queer, trans and non-binary, as well as people from a wide range of cultural, ethnic and racial backgrounds. I welcome clients of all faiths and none. I try not to make assumptions, but instead to meet each person as they are, with curiosity and respect.

Effectiveness in therapy

Ultimately, therapy is successful when it helps clients to become more fully themselves. There is no magic cure for our pain, but therapy can tend our wounds, allowing us to change the way we see ourselves and the world, and helping us to more fully experience being alive.

My first session

I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so you can get a sense of how I work.

Then, our first full session will be a chance to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s brought you to therapy, any relevant background, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share everything straight away—we’ll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

The session generally follows this flow:

- Settle in & practicalities – A quick orientation to the space.

- Confidentiality check-in – We’ll outline privacy limits and I’ll answer any questions.

- Your story & goals – You talk; I listen and help clarify themes.

- Initial aims – We may sketch out one to three early goals.

- Wrap-up – We reflect on how it felt, answer questions, and book the next session if it feels right.
