About me and my therapy practice

I am a qualified Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working in private practice from rooms in Hackney, East London and online.

Do you feel that something is not right, but can't put your finger on what? Are you finding life harder to cope with than you used to?

As someone who once questioned whether therapy was for them, I appreciate how difficult it can be to ask for help and am committed to creating a space in which all clients feel listened to and understood.

I value warmth, openness, creativity and human dignity. I like to see myself as a respectful companion on the client's journey, providing a relationship they can use as they see fit.

Speaking with a therapist can help you explore your feelings, clarify what it is that you are experiencing, and take a stand on how to respond. I believe that therapy can help people take responsibility for their own existence, and live their lives with courage, resilience and wholeheartedness.

I trained on the MA programme in Psychotherapy and Counselling (Existential Pathway) at Regent's University in London, where I also studied for an Intensive Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling. I have experience working with students and young people through Imperial College's Student Counselling and Mental Health Service, as well as extensive experience with LGBTQ+ clients at Elop, the UK's largest queer counselling service.

Before retraining as a therapist I worked for 15+ years as a journalist, holding senior roles at several national newspapers. This grounding in curiosity, clarity and directness continues to shape my therapy work.

Practice description

How does therapy with you work?
I see clients for as few or as many sessions as they wish. Initially, we would start with a free 30-minute introductory session, which can be conducted in-person, over the phone or via Zoom. If we agree we're a good match, I'd suggest committing to an initial block of six sessions, then seeing how we go from there. You can stop whenever you like. Sessions are generally once a week.

How much does therapy cost?
I charge £70 per 50-minute session. You can pay by bank transfer.

Where are you based? Can I see you online?
I see in-person clients from purpose-designed therapy rooms in Hackney Central and Dalston. If you'd prefer online sessions, I have some availability over Zoom. Phone sessions are also possible.

What if I need to take a holiday or get sick?
That's fine. There is no charge if you cannot attend a session, so long as you provide 48 hours notice.

My schedule moves around each week - can I still see you?
I've found that therapy works best if clients commit to the same hour each week, but I understand that modern life makes that difficult. Where possible, I will try to be flexible.

What type of therapy do you offer?
My core training is in existential therapy. Existential is one of several types ("modalities") of psychotherapy, alongside psychodynamic, CBT, Jungian etc. There is much overlap between modalities, but existential is distinct in some ways. It is rooted in the humanities (existentialist philosophy) rather than the sciences, so is more interested in exploring our human complexity than putting us all in diagnostic boxes. It can be particularly useful for clients wrestling with issues around meaning, choice, mortality, freedom, uncertainty and isolation.
