About me and my therapy practice
My name is Tim Dodgson and I am a qualified person-centred counsellor offering counselling in Lancaster, Morecambe and online through Acoustic Counselling. I work with adults who may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, low, grieving, affected by trauma, struggling in relationships, or sensing that something no longer feels sustainable.
Many people come to counselling after years of coping outwardly while struggling internally. You may not have the right words yet, or a clear explanation of what is wrong. That is okay. Counselling can offer a confidential space where you can begin to speak honestly, make sense of what you are carrying and reconnect with your own sense of self.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent nearly 30 years working in policing. That experience has shaped my understanding of pressure, responsibility, exposure to distress, workplace stress, trauma and the ways people can learn to keep functioning while feeling very different inside. I do not assume that experience is the same for everyone, but it informs my sensitivity to people who have carried a lot for a long time.
Practice description
Acoustic Counselling offers individual person-centred counselling for adults in Lancaster, Morecambe and online. Sessions provide a calm, confidential and accepting space where you can explore whatever feels important, without being judged, analysed, rushed or told what to do.
The person-centred approach is based on the belief that people often move towards growth and change when they feel deeply heard, understood and accepted. I aim to offer empathy, honesty and acceptance so that you can begin to make sense of your own experiences in your own way.
You may want to explore anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, emotional exhaustion, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, neurodivergence, work stress, retirement, identity or life changes. You may also simply feel that something is wrong but not yet know how to explain it. Both are welcome.
My first session
Before arranging a first counselling session, I offer a free 20-minute introductory telephone call. This is not a counselling session, but it gives you a chance to ask questions, get a sense of how I work and decide whether arranging a first session feels right.
The first counselling session itself lasts 50 minutes and is charged at £50. During this session, we can begin to explore what has brought you to counselling, what you may hope for from the work, and any questions you have about confidentiality, online counselling, fees or how sessions usually work.
